Job overview

We are looking for a Senior Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist to be part of the new Infected Blood Psychological Service (IBPS) supporting those who were infected or affected by contaminated blood products.

The role is based within the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust (CPFT) Psychological Medicine Service at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and hosted by the Addenbrooke’s Haemophilia Centre.

CPFT provides Psychological Medicine Services within acute hospitals in the county which include Addenbrooke’s Hospital; Royal Papworth Hospital; Peterborough City Hospital; Stamford Hospital and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

The Cambridge Psychological Medicine Service has been established over many years and provides high quality services, having an ‘excellent’ rating by the Psychiatric Liaison Accreditation Service.


Main duties of the job

The Care Navigator will be the first point of contact for people accessing the service and will play a vital role in ensuring a positive experience.

You will be responsible for completing biopsychosocial assessments and interventions, creating care plans, assessing risk and signposting to other services and agencies as appropriate.

You will lead on outreach programmes, establish mechanisms for peer support and play a key role in the overall development of this new service.

You will work closely with the IBPS Clinical Psychologists and with the national network of Care Navigators.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and care planning for individuals accessing the IBPS.

Provide a high level of clinical expertise in the assertive assessment and care of the psychosocial needs of people infected and affected by contaminated blood.

Ensure that care includes a thorough risk assessment and risk management plan.

To work closely with other members of the IBPS to develop a co-ordinated service.

Utilise recent research findings in the advancement of best practice and in the delivery of evidence-based treatment plans with regards to physical, cognitive, perceptual, psychological and social functioning.

To make recommendations based on specialist clinical reasoning, problem solving and risk assessment in order to maintain the person’s functional abilities and quality of life within the community.

To develop and maintain effective working links with other mental health services and other relevant statutory and voluntary agencies.

To ensure effective communication with people accessing the service and all other Health & Social Care Professionals regarding all aspects of care. This will include patients who will have difficulties in understanding and communication.

To provide and receive complex information that requires empathy and reassurance, communicating where there may be barriers to understanding.

To attend any clinic relevant to the delivery of an effective service within clinicalspeciality.


Person specification


Education/Qualifications

* Registered Mental Health Nurse or equivalent professional registration OR
* BSc or Diploma in OT.
* Evidence of relevant post registration specialist training and development.
* HCPC registration.


Experience

* Significant experience of psychosocial assessment and care planning.
* Experience working with adults with mental health presentations and/or complex needs.
* Experience in the assessment management of clinical risk and safeguarding.
* Evidence of effective collaborative MDT working.
* Experience working with people with mental health difficulties within a health care setting.
* Experience of developing peer support groups.
* Evidence of experience in service evaluation and improvements.
* We welcome people with lived experience of mental illness.


Skills & Abilities

* Able to demonstrate commitment to high quality care and service provision.
* Competent IT skills including word, outlook, excel and power point.
* Ability to prioritise workload effectively, meeting expected deadlines.
* Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
* Advanced interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to communicate and work with a wide range of professionals.

* High level of self-awareness, recognising own strength and limitations.

* In depth understanding of the psychosocial needs of this population.
* Specialist knowledge of psycho-social interventions and their appropriate use.
* Up to date knowledge of appropriate assessment scales.
* Knowledge of practical application of psychological therapies.
* Knowledge of service improvement models and their application.
