Marine Shafting Systems Analysis Engineer
Location: Southampton, Busan, Istanbul, Rotterdam, Singapore, Trieste, Yokohama (multiple locations considered)

What we're looking for: As part of this role, you will further develop as a Marine or Mechanical Engineer and be part of a team that provides world‑class technical investigation services to global clients by conducting engineering assessment and evaluation of systems and component failures to help ship owners and operators minimise business downtime. Using core engineering skills to identify and understand the root causes of failure, we provide customised solutions to allow recovery back to normal operation. Reporting to the TFI Manager, key responsibility of this role is to conduct a wide range of technical investigations using computer‑based analytical methods and detailed reporting.
Responsibilities
* Perform numerical assessments and provide specialist advice for service delivery, research or development work within agreed broad parameters that include budget constraints and contractual requirements.
* Produce report deliverables within the agreed parameters, review other employees’ work as requested.
* Provide technical support to other Advisory service teams, including occasional on‑site measurement, data acquisition and analysis assistance; this may involve foreign travel.
* Discuss and present deliverables with internal/external clients and suggest alternative solutions where appropriate.
* Undertake administration as required in line with current processes and procedures.
* Produce proposals and define required work to satisfy client expectations, ensuring consistency with established procedures.
* Assess and recommend the time/value of work to be undertaken for an internal/external client within an agreed fee/cost structure and within the commercial aspects of the contract.
* Make recommendations based on client feedback to improve service delivery and help build the business.
* Share knowledge with the team, advise colleagues based on reviews and own experience, and build an internal network of contacts to gain knowledge from senior personnel within Lloyd's Register.
* Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.
* Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
* Mentor/coach other technical employees to achieve effective technical knowledge transfer and application.
* Undertake project management where applicable, monitoring project progress and spend against budget and contract requirements.
Qualifications and Experience
* A degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent from an organisation recognised by Lloyd's Register (minimum two‑year programme) or equivalent marine/nautical qualifications and sea‑going experience as a certificated ship's officer.
* General knowledge of marine power plant engineering with emphasis on static shaft alignment analysis and dynamic response (torsional, axial, lateral and 6‑degrees of freedom vibration analysis) of marine propulsion shafting systems.
* Working knowledge and good experience of numerical methods such as finite element, boundary element (NASTRAN, ABAQUS, ANSYS, MSC Marc, FEMAP) for stress analysis and fatigue analysis; knowledge of linear fracture mechanics (CRACKWISE, BEASY) and probabilistic analyses is an advantage.
* Experience in a wide range of technical investigations in the marine and offshore industry, providing timely solutions in line with client expectations.
* Technical report writing skills.
* Membership of an appropriate professional institution desirable; working towards Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status preferred.
* Familiarity with MATLAB, Python, LabView and FORTRAN an advantage.
* Proficiency in English commensurate with the role.
* Eligibility to live and work in the UK; meet standard visa requirements for overseas travel.
* Possibility to obtain UK Naval security clearance without restrictions.
