The School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercise Sciences is seeking to appoint Graduate Laboratory Assistants for the Autumn Term 2025 and Spring Term 2026.
Applications are invited from postgraduate research students for GLA work and support is primarily required for sports and exercise science modules in subjects such as nutrition, psychology, biomechanics, physiology, coaching, and performance analysis. Opportunities are also available to support teaching in research methods, professional skills and digital skills.
Please note: Not every module requires GLA support.
Applicants must be registered for a postgraduate research degree at the University of Essex during all or part of the academic year 2025-2026.
The posts will be offered as fixed term employment contracts until the post holder completes or withdraws from postgraduate studies or enters further completion or an extension to completion period.
Although an overarching contract will be in place for the duration of postgraduate studies, GLAs will need to apply for individual posts and will have no entitlement to future engagements beyond their initial post.
Main Responsibilities
• Laboratory demonstration
• Maintaining contact with the laboratory supervisor
• Undertaking related administrative duties
• Attending training courses and briefing meetings
• Undertaking preparation as requested by the laboratory supervisor
Skills and Qualifications Required
Applicants should have familiarity with the subject area and meet the essential skills as detailed on the job description. You should also have an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area and be studying for a research degree in a relevant area, but not be in further completion.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate adequate English language competence for teaching and assessing a wide range of students who are both native and non-native English speakers and have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a wide range of students.
