Contract: Full-Time (37 hours/week, 12 weeks)

Hours: 07:00–15:00 (Mon–Thu), 07:00–14:30 (Fri), with potential shifts between 06:00–18:00
Pay Rate: £12.59/hour (PAYE) or £15.99/hour (Limited/Umbrella)

What You’ll Do
As a Driver/Operative, you’ll:
6. Complete daily street cleansing tasks as per the Contract specification and Daily Route Schedules.
7. Drive Council vehicles safely, adhering to the Driver Handbook, Road Traffic Regulations, and Health and Safety guidelines.
8. Supervise Cleansing Operatives when working together, ensuring efficient and high-quality task completion.
9. Wear provided Council uniform, protective clothing, and footwear, maintaining a professional appearance.
10. Report incidents, accidents, or equipment faults promptly to supervisors.
11. Attend training courses as instructed to enhance your skills and compliance.
12. Engage with the public, supervisors, and client officers, demonstrating excellent customer care.
13. Work a rostered shift pattern, including weekends, bank holidays, and extra-statutory days, as required.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking candidates who are:
14. Licensed: Hold a current, full UK driving licence (essential).
15. Knowledgeable: Familiar with the Newport City area and the demands of public sector work (essential).
16. Experienced (Desirable): Have experience in refuse or cleansing services and/or supervisory roles.
17. Skilled: Able to work independently, meet deadlines, prioritize tasks, and demonstrate strong customer care skills.
18. Physically Fit: Capable of considerable walking, bending, lifting, and carrying during cleansing duties.
19. Adaptable: Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and follow a rostered shift pattern, including weekends and holidays.
20. Enthusiastic: Self-motivated, positive, and committed to personal development and serving the public.
