Job Summary

The Lead GP will focus on clinical work, mentor trainees and students, and play a key role in redesigning services at PCN and IC\SI level. The role supports high QOF results, fosters continuous improvement, and drives service development.

Main Duties
* Deliver primary medical services via surgeries, clinics, and visits as per the job plan.
* Make autonomous clinical decisions for self‑referenced and internally referred patients.
* Assess undifferentiated patients and develop care plans.
* Provide counselling, health education, and patient advocacy.
* Admit or discharge patients and refer appropriately.
* Support inter‑professional teamwork to ensure quality care.
* Provide clinical leadership and oversee key processes.
* Recruit, mentor, and appraise staff; support professional development.
* Improve service reliability and pursue highest quality outcomes.
* Implement clinical governance, quality requirements, and performance monitoring.

Person Specification
Experience – Essential
* Knowledge of National Primary Care agenda and fitness to practice.
* Experience of multidisciplinary and multi‑agency working.
* Evidence of leadership development.
* Ability to engage patients and PPG for service improvement.
* Good knowledge of safeguarding policies.
Experience – Desirable
* Working experience in different NHS sectors.
* Experience within a PCN.
* Experience in staff development and performance management.
* Interest in teaching allied health professionals/GP registrars.
* Interest in diabetes care.
Qualifications – Essential
* Registered with the GMC and evidence of revalidation.
* Accepted medical degree.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Medical indemnity cover with MDU/MPS or MDDUS.
* Mandatory safeguarding training.
* Registered on the National Medical Performers list.
Qualifications – Desirable
* Management qualification or equivalent experience.
