Overview

The Maternity Smoke-Free Lead Practitioner role will contribute to tackling health inequalities by promoting and supporting Smoke-Free Pregnancies across the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Systems. It focuses on engaging service users and their families to adopt healthy lifestyles by providing tobacco dependence treatment in line with Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle v3.2, NICE Guidance, and the NHS Long Term Plan.


Responsibilities

* Establish and maintain communication with service users who smoke; strong interpersonal skills are essential.
* Collaborate with community stakeholders, service users and carers to reduce health inequalities.
* Deliver evidence-based interventions focused on behaviour change and licensed cessation aids; training available to enable delivery.
* Lead and manage a dedicated team of professionals advancing smoke-free practices for pregnant service users.
* Develop and implement effective strategies to raise awareness and support smoking cessation.
* Accurately maintain and complete detailed data records to monitor progress and outcomes.
* Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive and effective care for service users.


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level (including Maths and English).
* NVQ Level 3 in the associated topic or equivalent, plus additional diploma-level training.
* NCSCT smoking in pregnancy practitioner registered.
* Knowledge and understanding of Data Protection, patient confidentiality and information governance.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook).
* Relevant qualification in public health, nursing, or a maternity-related field.


Desirable

* Leadership or customer service qualification.
* Education/teaching qualification or experience.
* Accredited Health Education and Promotion qualification.


Experience

* Experience in maternity care with evidence of implementing or participating in change.
* Strong leadership and team management skills; proven ability to meet targets and deadlines.
* Experience using hospital systems (PAS, E Track, Evolve, K2) and providing healthcare or health promotion advice to patients or the public.
* Experience in customer service in a healthcare environment (e.g., reception, call centre).
* Knowledge and experience of stop smoking aids (e.g., vapes, nicotine replacement therapy) and incentive schemes.

* Motivated, enthusiastic, and capable of meeting targets under pressure.
* Strong knowledge of evidence-based practice in smoking cessation and the benefits of quitting during pregnancy.
* Ability to work on own initiative, prioritise work, and demonstrate initiative and innovation.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills; ability to build relationships with professionals from diverse backgrounds.
* Ability to analyse and evaluate data to monitor service trends and support improvement.
* Understanding of health promotion principles and health inequality issues.


Communication

* Enthusiastic with the ability to motivate self and others; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across clinical and administrative staff.
* Good listening skills and the ability to build rapport with service users.
* Ability to influence and motivate staff to foster a stop-smoking culture within the trust.

* A satisfactory enhanced DBS check against vulnerable groups barred lists.
