Are you looking for a leadership role in an independent practice where you have the freedom to innovate and make a real impact on the future of the practice?
Our clients are looking for a passionate and experienced vet to join the team as Veterinary Director at two independent, small animal clinics in Swindon and Reading. This is a unique opportunity with a 50/50 split of clinical and non-clinical work in a hands-on role where you can help guide the growth of the practice and make a real difference. If you already have management experience and are craving the freedom to do things differently, or if you're looking to develop your management skills and explore new ideas, this is the place for you.
You will be working alongside the Clinical Director, to oversee the clinics and drive change and improvement. It's a really exciting time as the practice grows, and they would love you to share their ideas, enthusiasm, and experiences to help shape the future of the clinic and share its success.
As an integral part of the clinical team, you will have the freedom to influence change and develop improved processes and ways of working. Being independent gives the practice the ability to make changes quickly, and you will have the autonomy to make decisions without needing to break through layers of red tape; for example, if we want to try a new rota suggestion, we can soon get it rolled out for a two-week trial to see how it goes, knowing we have the flexibility to make adjustments as needed.
You will be responsible for the team's day-to-day management, including rotas and encouraging and supporting professional development. While you'll primarily be based in Swindon, you'll need to be able to travel to Reading regularly to collaborate with the team.
This is a full-time role with a share of the Saturday shifts, although this will often be in a support role, being available to offer support and advice to the less experienced vets when needed. The out-of-hours are currently outsourced, so there are no Sundays and limited bank holiday working.

About us
The practice was set up with the goal of changing the veterinary industry for the better. We want to make high-quality veterinary care affordable and accessible to all pet owners and to do so in an environment where our team thrive and their work-life balance is valued and respected.
We’ve had an incredible ten years; our practice at Swindon is now one of the largest first-opinion single-site practices in the UK, and we’ve recently expanded, opening our new Reading clinic in February 2023. Over the next few years, we hope to continue this expansion, and we aim to increase the range of affordable services available to our clients through additional equipment and a certificate-led referral service.
Our ethos is centred on offering an open and transparent approach to veterinary care, and we are looking for someone who shares our values. We’ve even developed our own unique practice management system, which provides clients with secure online access to their pets’ medical records, including real-time updates. Using innovative technology in this way means our clients are involved in their pets' care every step of the way while also easing the administrative workload of our clinical team.
For the last two years, we have hosted our own Conference, featuring world-renowned speakers across the vet and nurse streams. For our team, attendance was free, with time back in lieu. We would love to continue this in the future, along with expanding our online educational material to help promote responsible pet care worldwide. We are always interested in hearing ideas from our team members to help us on our journey to make a real difference.
Our large, purpose-built clinics have state-of-the-art, hospital standard facilities, including dental x-ray, laparoscopy, ultrasound, and full IDEXX laboratory, including blood gases and Coags. We also have a monthly visiting CT.
Our team
Our 14 vets are a diverse and experienced team, ranging from new grads to seasoned pros with 25+ years under their belts. We're also committed to helping our team members grow and develop. Currently, four of our vets either have or are studying towards certification, including surgery, dentistry, oral surgery, and small animal cardiology. We have the facilities, experience, and caseload to help everyone reach their goals while giving you the clinical freedom to work up your cases in your own way. A vet who recently joined our teamhas a surgery certificate and will be taking on the orthopaedic caseload, so we have invested in the specialist equipment needed and arranged dedicated nurse resources to support her.
We are an approved nurse training practice with an experienced nursing team, which includes 12 RVNs, 5 SVNs, 5 auxiliary nurses and 3 support team members. Our brilliant client care team helps keep the day running smoothly.
Outside of work
We are a lovely, friendly team who enjoy getting together outside of work, whether for our annual Christmas party, the summer BBQ, a bit of friendly competition at bowling or laser quest or a trip to the Bridgwater carnival.
There is lots to do in and around Swindon, whether you fancy a leisurely stroll around Coate Water Country Park, shopping up a storm at the Designer Outlet, unleashing your inner train spotter at the Museum of Great Western Railway or having a quick trip around the magic roundabout! Travel links are great, with easy access to the M4 and some of the UK’s most beautiful areas, such as the Cotswolds or Wiltshire Downs. There are also regular train services to Bristol and London, which can both be reached in under an hour.
