If so, we have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Performance Officer (Operations) to join our Environmental team. In this role, you'll be the key support for our Environmental Performance Lead, helping to manage environmental risks and reduce the overall environmental impact of our operational activities. You'll work directly with our operational teams and contractors to assess reactive works and manage our network of sites, many of which are located in sensitive landscapes like Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This means you'll need experience in mitigating the impact of works in these areas and know when to engage with specialists, stakeholders, and consultants. You'll also play a vital role in promoting good practice and sustainable initiatives by delivering training programs and building strong relationships with our wider operational teams. The position also involves waste tracking, auditing, and managing action plans to ensure compliance and support incident response across all our operational areas. Main Responsibilities Support the Operations and Waste Lead and work closely with the Operational staff to ensure timely assessment of work and documentation. Assessment of reactive and emergency works with environmental advice to minimise environmental impact of work and to reduce the likelihood of environmental prosecutions. Writing policy & strategy documents for operational environmental management. Incorporating controls into key documents. Liaison with environmental regulators obtaining consents and advice where necessary and reporting back to the business. Auditing / site inspections to ensure compliance with regulation & internal standards. Reporting on KPI's (against 25 year Environment Plan commitments) Assist in rolling out training programme and competencies required for operational staff. Reporting to regulators and stakeholders such as water industry bodies and neighbouring water companies. Looking for synergies across the geographical region to enhance sustainability and economy of scale. Promoting sustainability, circular economy and waste hierarchy goals across the business. Management and mentoring of apprentices / graduates within team and wider environment team. You'll need: Skills / Qualifications / Experience Degree in environmental based subject or equivalent experience in an process based or operational environmental role. Management of environmental aspects and risks across a wide range of settings. Ability to determine pragmatic outcomes which minimise harm to environment and communicate these to the business. Passion for the environment with the ability to work closely with colleagues, contractors, stakeholders, regulators and members of the public. People management skills, direct management of a small team and wider management of regulator, stakeholder and contractor relationships. Demonstrable experience within a relevant environmental field. Experience of working within a process environment, particularly in relation to incident response. Waste Management knowledge preferably within multi-hub process setting. It will be a bonus if you have: Skills / Qualifications / Experience WAMITAB or equivalent qualification. Chartership or working towards chartership of a professional body such as CIWEM, CIEEM, CIWM or Institute of Water. Protected species licence holder or experience working with protected species mitigation. Ability to mentor and inspire members of the team. Report writing and data presentation skills. Experience in habitat restoration and management techniques essential, in particular experience of survey and working in woodland, chalk grassland and heathland habitats. Preferable experience working with protected species mitigation on sites.
