Central Stock Controller Opportunity – Colney Heath

Join Lawsons Colney Heath as a Central Stock Controller and play a crucial role in supporting our supply chain, ensuring the availability, integrity and efficiency of our stock management for customers and colleagues alike.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out regular and ad-hoc stock counts, maintaining precise inventory records both physically and in our stock management systems.
Monitor and review all stock movements inbound and outbound – ensuring all deliveries, transfers, returns and adjustments are processed accurately and documented.
Work closely with purchasing, sales, warehouse and yard teams to investigate and resolve discrepancies in stock levels promptly.
Oversee the safe, efficient storage, rotation, and replenishment of products following company procedures and Health & Safety guidelines.
Support the implementation of best practice stock control initiatives in line with audit, compliance, and operational requirements.
Provide accurate reporting and actionable insights on inventory status and key trends for branch and senior management.
Assist in continuous improvement of stock control processes, supporting branch targets for loss prevention and operational excellence.
Report all stock issues, losses or damages and escalate per company policy to maintain robust asset protection.

Full-time role Monday - Friday based at Lawsons Colney Heath (AL4 0PG).

Salary range £30,000 - £35,000, dependent on experience.

Person Specification – Skills and Experience for Success in Stock Control
Previous experience in stock control, inventory management, or a similar environment within a builders’ merchant, warehouse, or distribution setting (preferred but not essential).
Excellent organisational skills with proven attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, able to investigate discrepancies and implement corrective action.
Confident IT user, comfortable with stock management or ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
Good numeracy and written communication skills, with the ability to complete accurate documentation and reports.
Demonstrated commitment to Health & Safety and safe working practices.
Ability to work collaboratively and build positive relationships with all teams on site.
Self-motivated, reliable, and consistent in delivering tasks to deadlines.

Desirable Qualifications & Traits
Experience with SAP, Kerridge, or similar inventory and stock control systems.
Previous experience undertaking stock takes, audits or similar functions within a busy trade or retail environment.
