Main duties of the job
The role of HCA is an essential part of our GP Practice team who provide the full range of NHS Primary Medical Services. You will be working alongside our friendly and patient focused clinical and management teams. We would like you to have knowledge of phlebotomy and basic health checks, and would be able to provide training to expand your skills to cover the whole range of HCA competencies in a GP practice. You must work with autonomy and a high degree of confidentiality, sensitivity, discretion, empathy and tact. We offer a regular shift pattern, access to NHS Pension, 28 days holiday per year plus Bank Holidays, and a competitive salary. Hours are part time and negotiable, but we need the post to cover on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

ACCOUNTABILITY:
Accountable to the Lead Nurse.
RESPONSIBILITY:
The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) provides an essential patient service, performing a range of tasks including phlebotomy, patient observations, assisting with procedures, and maintaining a safe and efficient environment. Responsibilities include provision of care as supervised and directed by the Practice Nursing team, updating records and restocking supplies. They may also be involved in health promotion and administrative duties.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Care
Patient Observations
Measuring and recording vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
Procedures within scope of training and competency
Phlebotomy, injections, wound care, ECG
Assisting with Procedures
Preparing patients for examinations, assisting with minor procedures and chaperone duties.
Health Checks
Performing health checks, such as weight monitoring, urinalysis, and ECGs. When trained, carrying out NHS Health Checks.
Record Keeping
Accurately recording patient information in medical records and updating electronic health records.
Infection Control
Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, following infection control protocols.
Stock Management
Ensuring adequate supplies of clinical equipment and consumables are available in consulting rooms and treatment areas.
Administrative Tasks
Assisting with administrative duties such as appointment scheduling, data entry, and processing paperwork.
Health Promotion
Providing basic health advice and education to patients on topics like smoking cessation, healthy eating, and exercise.
Equipment Maintenance
Ensuring medical equipment is properly maintained and in working order.
Training and Development
Participating in training and development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.
