Due to significant growth across our Power Solutions business, Wood are seeking additional HV Cable Engineering resources to support our growing workload. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Cable Designer to join the team.
This Electrical Cable Designer opportunity will suit someone looking for the opportunity to develop a rewarding career in the electrical transmission industry. It is expected to grow alongside the needs of the network and planned development towards 2030 and then the 2050 reconfiguration of the UK network. It will provide the solid fundamental understanding of HV cable design supporting construction, procurement, and consultancy on a variety of projects and will support professional development and recognition within the sector.
The role can be based in any of our offices in Horsham, Glasgow or Darlington with Wood's commitment to hybrid working allowing a combination between office and home working. You will be required to travel as and when required.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the production of design outputs assigned, delivered against the allocated programme and budget and to the expected quality.
8. Producing UGC systems design drawings using different software programmes including Civil 3D and MicroStation.
9. Producing draft cable system design reports.
10. Carrying out various design calculations.
11. Minimum HND in STEM subject preferably with Electrical Engineering content.
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
12. Basic understanding of electricity systems.
13. Proficient report writing skills using Microsoft Word, and also Microsoft Excel.
14. Fluent spoken and written English language.
15. Programming skills using Python and/or other languages.
16. Ability to work effectively in a diverse team.
17. Ability of use CAD design software with proficient draughting skills using AutoCAD.
18. Ability to drive is beneficial.
19. Experience in working under CDM regulations as a designer.
20. Experience in route drawings preparation and cross-sectional drawings.
