We are looking for a medical receptionist/administrator (34 hours per week) to work in our very busy GP practice. The role involves providing a welcoming, efficient, and confidential reception service while supporting the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the practice. The postholder will handle patient enquiries, manage appointments, and carry out a range of administrative duties in line with NHS guidelines and practice policies.

* Process repeat prescriptions

The practice has a large, multi‑disciplinary team serving a population of 16,000 patients. Despite the size of the team we work closely together in a very friendly environment with approachable team members.
Our main site is a modern, purpose‑built surgery and we also have a smaller branch site on the opposite side of the town centre. It can be incredibly busy and the role can be quite demanding but very rewarding.
Job responsibilities
* Greet patients and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
* Handle incoming telephone calls, ensuring queries are dealt with efficiently
* Provide information regarding practice services and procedures
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
* Book, amend, and cancel patient appointments using the clinical system
* Manage appointment requests in line with practice protocols
* Support triage processes where applicable
* Maintain accurate patient records and update information on the system
* Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice procedures
* Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence (post, email, NHS systems)
* Scan and file documents into patient records
* Liaise with clinicians and other staff to ensure smooth patient flow
* Assist with administrative tasks to support clinical staff
* Ensure the reception area is tidy, safe, and welcoming
* Adhere to GDPR, NHS confidentiality, and data protection regulations
* Follow practice policies, procedures, and health & safety guidelines
