Revision Hip Clinical Nurse Specialist
The closing date is 30 March 2026
We are recruiting a Band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist to support patients undergoing revision hip surgery within our Complex Orthopaedic Revision Networks. These fixed‑term roles provide expert, patient‑centred care for patients undergoing low‑volume, high‑complexity procedures and those experiencing postoperative complications, including periprosthetic joint infection. Working within a designated sub‑specialty and as part of a wider CNS team, the post‑holders will coordinate care across the patient pathway, work closely with orthopaedic surgeons, microbiology, and the wider MDT, support regional units to meet national standards, coordinate established MDT meetings, contribute to service development, undertake data collection and reporting, and deliver education to staff, patients and families.
Main duties of the job
For more detail about the main duties of this role, please see the job description section below. As a key member of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, you will be joining an exceptional team working together to help our patients stay healthy when they need it most.
Job responsibilities
Patients undergoing low volume high complexity surgeries such as revision hip and knee replacements require more support and care coordination. The complex orthopaedic CNS will provide compassionate, patient‑centred care for patients undergoing complex orthopaedic surgery or experiencing complications following orthopaedic surgery. The post‑holder will be assigned to a specific sub‑specialty but will be part of a wider CNS group to ensure that the service is seamless for patients regardless of specialty.
The nursing role requires close collaboration with all members of the orthopaedic team and the wider MDT across Trauma and Orthopaedics and Microbiology. A key aspect of the role is working with other units performing complex orthopaedic surgery across the region and supporting them to meet the requirements of relevant national standards and key performance indicators.
The post‑holder will support patients throughout their pathway, offer additional support and guidance where needed, support the speciality clinical lead to develop non‑operative support in line with national standards, and coordinate regular multidisciplinary team meetings.
Data collection and submission will be required on a regular basis; therefore, good IT skills and attention to detail are essential. The successful post‑holder should ideally have experience caring for this patient cohort either in a ward or outpatient setting, experience and interest in wound care, be willing to advance their own practice, work collaboratively, have excellent interpersonal skills and possess the attributes that make them a valued team member.
The post‑holder will provide education and training to staff locally and regionally, as well as educate patients and their families at pre‑operative education classes. They may also be called upon for advice and guidance by a variety of health professionals and patients regarding postoperative care and treatment plans for those with periprosthetic joint infection.
