Come and build your future nursing career with us, whilst we build the Cambridge Childrens Hospital, the first hospital in the world that fully integrates mental and physical health provision so that young people and their families experience complete and seamless care according to their individual needs. This will be underpinned by world‑class research in child health and genomics. Join us as our plans for this ground‑breaking specialist hospital for the East of England take shape – read more on the Children’s Hospital website.

We are excited to be developing our nursing provision for Paediatric Oncology and Haematology services and have Band 5 vacancies within our inpatient area. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated and committed individuals who are passionate in caring for children with cancer to join and enhance our team.

Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (CUH) is the Primary Treatment Centre for children aged 0‑16, who require care in all aspects of haematology/oncology throughout the East of England region. The care provided includes delivering chemotherapy, radiotherapy, Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and end‑of‑life care when indicated. CUH also participates in a range of national research trials and studies to develop the care for future generations.

Responsibilities

As a Band 5 nurse, you will be responsible for competently providing safe and effective care to children, whilst in hospital with various haematological and oncological conditions. You will need to be able to assess their care needs, as well as plan, implement and evaluate care given. You will also participate in the supervision and teaching of unqualified and qualified staff. As a Band 5 you will develop your own skills in the safe administration of medication via various routes, including the administration of chemotherapy as a senior Band 5 nurse, alongside taking charge of the ward.

We actively encourage our staff to develop and offer numerous opportunities to extend your skills and experience within this speciality. Opportunities include delivering Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapies (SACT), high‑dependency care, bone marrow transplantation and further oncology care.
