What to expect day to day The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer is a key contributor responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing cutting-edge electro-mechanical products for the Energy Utilities and Renewables industries. As a senior member of the Mechanical Engineering team, you will lead development of complex industrial products, provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers, and ensure our products meet stringent performance and quality standards. Responsibilities Lead development, testing and evaluation of mechanical designs for the Energy industry in accordance with Camlin NPI process, while complying with industry standards and regulations. Apply sound knowledge of engineering principles to evaluate mechanical and electro-mechanical products. Mentor engineers, providing technical guidance, best practices, and support for skill development. Create, review and maintain engineering drawings, technical specifications and test plans in accordance with Camlin best practice. Create, review and maintain Bills of Materials (BoM) and work with Purchasing to identify appropriate suppliers. Ensure that products will perform consistently in specified operating environments, meeting Camlin quality and customer expectations. Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFM, DFA) techniques, including standardisation and exploration of new processes, to ensure cost-effective and efficient design. Lead collaboration with other engineering functions, and other departments including the Operations team. Conduct design reviews, design evaluations, and testing to uphold high-quality standards. Proactively challenge and drive the organisation to continually improve quality and performance of engineering design. Plan and manage own work with limited supervision and provide estimates of engineering costs and timescales to support business needs. Essential Requirements A minimum 2:1 degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline, or practical work experience commensurate to a 3 rd level education. A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a mechanical engineering environment with a focus on product design and development, including experience leading complex design projects through the full product lifecycle. Experience with Solid Edge or similar CAD packages, including creation of parts, assemblies and detailed 2D drawings including use of GD&T. Demonstrated understanding of core mechanical engineering principles, manufacturing processes and assembly techniques. Ability to design cost effective solutions from specifications against agreed budget and timescale requirements. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to address technical challenges. Ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands. Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration within the team and with other departments. Experience with prototype testing / verification and failure analysis. Practical, hands-on experience, with part manufacture and prototype assembly.
