Randstad Education is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant for a rewarding role in the Sheffield area. We're looking for someone to support a vibrant primary school with pupils who have a range of additional needs.
Key Responsibilities
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your role is crucial to the success of the classroom. You will be responsible for:
* Providing bespoke one-on-one and small-group support to pupils with a range of needs, including communication difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and physical disabilities.
* Working closely with the class teacher to adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual pupil needs, ensuring all children can access the curriculum.
* Acting as a key point of contact for a pupil, providing consistent emotional and pastoral support to help them feel secure and confident in school.
* Putting into practice specific communication and learning strategies, such as PECS or Makaton, to support non-verbal or pre-verbal pupils.
* Maintaining accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour, providing valuable feedback to the teacher and wider support team.
* Encouraging pupils to develop their own learning strategies and social skills, helping them build confidence and self-reliance.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you must have:
* Demonstrable experience working with children with SEND in an educational or care setting.
* An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
* The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
* Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or similar strategies is highly desirable.
* A compassionate, patient, and highly adaptable approach.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
* A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
