The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Architectural Technician to take a leading role in the technical design and delivery of multidisciplinary projects across all RIBA stages, with particular responsibility during detail design and project delivery phases.
The successful individual will play a key role in coordinating design disciplines, ensuring technical assurance, and supporting governance processes across projects. They will be confident working within complex project environments and able to balance design intent with regulatory, commercial and programme constraints.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Architectural Technician will be responsible for:
* Leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design delivery across all RIBA stages
* Taking responsibility for detail design development and delivery outputs
* Managing coordination between architectural, engineering and specialist disciplines
* Producing and managing design packages through to tender documentation, including specifications and schedules of work
* Ensuring compliance with Planning and Building Regulations throughout project stages
* Reviewing building condition surveys and defining appropriate project approaches
* Supporting preparation of budgets, cost inputs and programme development
* Producing and reviewing CDM design risk assessments
* Supporting governance processes in line with internal management systems
* Ensuring client and statutory approvals are obtained at all required stages
* Preparing pre construction information and tender documentation packages
* Producing detailed technical drawings using CAD and BIM tools
* Liaising with contractors, consultants and wider construction stakeholders
* Addressing design challenges arising from planning, environmental and budget constraints
* Adapting design outputs in response to project requirements and site conditions
* Conducting site visits and attending client and project meetings regularly
Skills and Experience Required
* Strong technical background in detailed design and multidisciplinary project delivery
* Experience working with AutoCAD, Revit, MicroStation, SketchUp and BIM environments
* Knowledge of Design and Build and other contract forms
* Understanding of Building Regulations, Planning legislation and CDM requirements
* Experience across sectors such as commercial, transport, education or government
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and remote collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams
* Ability to work within structured governance and quality assurance frameworks
* Experience managing design coordination and external stakeholder input
* Ability to obtain MOD Baseline Security Clearance and Ministry of Justice clearance
Desirable Experience
* Membership or working towards CIAT accreditation
* Experience using NBS and related specification tools
* Experience with Bentley MicroStation and ProjectWise
* Previous involvement in rail or light rail projects
* Exposure to complex infrastructure or regulated environments
