Are you an experienced Design Manager looking to join a respected, forward‑thinking construction contractor with a strong regional presence?
We're supporting a well‑established Tier 1 organisation as they look to strengthen their technical and pre‑construction capabilities with a high‑calibre Design Manager. This is a permanent opportunity offering long‑term progression, involvement in major projects, and the chance to influence design strategy from tender stage through to delivery.
As the appointed Design Manager, you'll work closely with pre‑construction, commercial, and operational teams to coordinate design information, manage consultant outputs, and ensure projects are technically robust, buildable, and aligned with client expectations. This contractor delivers a diverse portfolio across the North East, including commercial, education, healthcare, and public‑sector schemes, giving you exposure to varied and technically challenging work.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate the design process from tender through to project completion
* Manage design consultants, ensuring timely and accurate information flow
* Review drawings, specifications, and technical details to ensure buildability and compliance
* Support bid submissions with design solutions, value engineering, and technical input
* Work closely with project managers and site teams to resolve design queries
* Attend design team meetings, progress reviews, and client presentations
* Ensure all design information meets regulatory, contractual, and quality standards
What We're Looking For
* Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor or design‑and‑build environment
* Strong understanding of construction methodology, technical detailing, and project sequencing
* Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive design progress
* Confident reviewing drawings and coordinating consultant outputs
* Excellent communication skills and a proactive, solutions‑focused approach
* Experience across sectors such as commercial, education, healthcare, or public buildings is beneficial
