We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join us as a Speech and Language Therapist Assistant and work alongside our established East Locality team.

This is a community-based role that requires frequent travel to various locations throughout the county including areas that may not be accessible by public transportation. Successful candidates will need to demonstrate how they will manage these travel requirements.
Main duties of the job
* Provide Speech and Language Therapy support to children with speech, language and communication needs in the East Locality team under the supervision of a speech and language therapist.
* Activities will include setting up and running parent groups, children’s groups, individual assessment and intervention, advice and target setting within settings/home and developing resources and packages of care.
* Independently manage, with support from a Speech and Language Therapist, a caseload of children with developmental communication and acquired disorders of speech, language and communication.
* Set up resources within programmes to be carried out by other key workers and parents.
* Contribute to written reports collated by the Speech and Language Therapist.
* Provide training and support to parents and carers, other professionals including early years and school staff, appropriate Voluntary Organisations, at local level, etc.
Person specification
Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience
* Experience of working within education settings.
* Experience of working with children and young people with learning disability and complex needs.
* Experience of working with families and carers of people with communication needs.
* Relevant experience working with the Speech and language therapy team.
* Experience of training others, e.g. setting staff and parents.
Knowledge and abilities
* Knowledge of Speech and Language Therapy and modification procedures, verbal, and non-verbal methods of communicating; acquired through combination of formal training, short courses and experience.
