We are currently seeking an enthusiastic individual with a passion for animals to join us as an Out of Hours Veterinary Patient Care Assistant or Student Veterinary Nurse at Haygate Vets in Telford on a fixed term contract until the end of June 2026.
We are looking for someone who can start ASAP. You will be working a variety of fixed shifts between now and June, with an estimated pattern of roughly 7 shifts on and 14 off.
Your new role will be supporting the OOH team and would be ideal for a SVN or Vet student to increase their knowledge. You will be working alongside an RVN and Lead Vet with a varied caseload, plenty of animal handling and clinical experience.

About the role
The Patient Care Assistant role is one of the foundations of an outstanding veterinary practice. As a PCA you will be involved in supporting our team of qualified RVNs and Vets to provide outstanding care to our patients, working alongside a passionate and collaborative team.
This role will involve animal handling, assisting vets and nurses in restraining animals for treatment, cleaning, walking and feeding patients, general cleaning and maintenance duties and reception cover when needed, including answering phone calls, greeting clients and delivering the highest standards of animal and customer care.
What we're looking for in our Veterinary Patient Care Assistant
* An excellent communicator with strong empathy
* Excellent customer service skills and experience in dealing with members of the public
* Experience in animal welfare, including feeding, cleaning, medicating and handling, and a high level of understanding of how to meet the welfare needs of animals
* Resilient with the ability to cope with potentially distressing and emotional situations
* A positive attitude and excellent teamwork skills
* An understanding of health and safety and being comfortable with manual handling tasks
* Experience in looking after animals in a veterinary environment would be desirable
