Co‑opted School Governor – Sacred Heart Primary

Join to apply for the Co‑opted School Governor – Sacred Heart Primary role at WMJobs.

Sacred Heart Primary School (SIPS) – a two form‑entry primary school in Tipton for children aged 3 to 11 years – is looking for a co‑opted governor to join our friendly governing body. Governors come from diverse backgrounds but share a common interest in providing the best possible education for our pupils. The role is voluntary, unpaid and covers a four‑year term. Governors act as a ‘critical friend’, working strategically to oversee the running of the school.

Our vision is to develop young people who have active and creative minds, a sense of understanding and compassion for others, and the courage to act on their beliefs. We stress the total development of each child – spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, emotional, cultural and physical – and pride ourselves on an inclusive practice, having achieved the Sandwell Inclusion Quality Mark (enhanced level) twice.

Being a school governor is challenging but rewarding. It offers the chance to make a real difference to young people, give back to the local community, and develop your skills. A successful governing body needs a balance of diverse knowledge, skills and experience.

We would be delighted to hear from anyone who has:

* an interest in the performance of the school
* an open and enquiring mind and the ability to look at issues objectively
* confidence to ask questions and join in debate
* the willingness to listen and make informed judgements
* the ability to work well with others
* some time to spare to attend meetings and work with subject leaders
* support and challenge the school to drive improvement for pupils and staff
* finance experience – school finance preferable but not essential
* HR/Staffing experience in an educational setting preferable

The Governing Body at Sacred Heart Primary School has three main functions:

* Setting strategic direction – championing our vision, values, and ethos and setting priorities for school improvement
* Holding to account – responsible for holding the Headteacher and senior leaders to account for quality of teaching and learning, achievement, behaviour, and safety
* Ensuring good financial governance – overseeing the budget and ensuring resources are allocated to school priorities and needs

All governors must complete safeguarding checks and be over 18 years old. We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in education, finance and human resources.

If you are interested, please send a brief description of yourself and why you would like to join our governing body to Mrs Nicki Elwart, Office Manager/PA to Headteacher – nicki.elwart@sacredheartpri.com.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake all relevant safeguarding checks and an enhanced DBS check.

Contact details: Email: nicki.elwart@sacredheartpri.com or call 0121 557 1511.
