Station Manager B – Operational Flexi Duty

Permanent Vacancies

£55,301 per annum plus 20% Flexi-Duty System allowance

There is currently one permanent and one temporary vacancy. Candidates who meet the required standard will be placed in a pool for 12 months or until the next promotion process, for consideration for future vacancies.

This opportunity is open to substantive competent Wholetime and On Call Watch Managers looking for promotion and existing Wholetime Station Managers looking to transfer.

* Thorough understanding of national and local fire service operating context

* All core skills current and ‘in-ticket’
* A formal management qualification – i.e., Level 3 Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) or equivalent (those without a formal management qualification will be expected to embark upon future relevant management courses provided by DFRS)
* Sector competence in Incident Command at Level 1 and will be required to demonstrate ability to manage operational incidents by successfully completing a Level 2 Incident Command assessment following appointment
* Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) Level 4 Certificate, two examination papers
o Mandatory: Level 4 Certificate in Fire Service Operations and Incident Command (L4C3)
o Plus, one from the list below:
+ Level 4 Certificate in Fire Investigation (L4C6)
+ Level 4 Certificate in Fire Engineering Science (L4C1)
+ Level 4 Certificate in Fire Safety (L4C2)
+ Level 4 Certificate in Civil Emergency and Disaster Management* * Examination paper no longer available to be taken but will be accepted if previously achieved

As this is a demanding role, candidates will need to show a high level of personal resilience and an ability to work under pressure.

Appointments will be subject to individuals being able to provide operational cover and therefore live or be located (whilst on duty) within the County boundary of Derbyshire. Station Managers operate on a Flexi-Duty rota, details can be found in the link below.

Due to the sensitive nature of the duties that the postholder will be expected to undertake an enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) will be requested for the successful candidate.

Police security vetting procedures at Non Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) level 3 plus Security Clearance check (SC) will be requested for the successful candidate. Due to the nature of security checks undertaken, applicants must have 3 years continuous residency in the UK up to the date of the application and Home Office approval for indefinite leave to remain within the UK.

Operational employees are responsible for their own fitness, health and wellbeing. Fitness will need to be maintained for the role to be undertaken safely. Specifically, the fitness requirements must be met as detailed in the DFRS Fitness Policy.

Successful candidates will be expected to complete the NFCC Middle Leadership Programme (MLP) if a level 5 leadership qualification is not already held.
