Are you a Consultant Psychiatrist interested in being a part of the delivery and development of ground-breaking Mental Health Services? We are recruiting for a full-time Consultant Psychiatrist to provide clinical leadership to the Adult Community Mental Health team based at Wallingford Community Hospital. The team is part of the well-established South Oxon Adults Community Mental Health Team. You will work alongside a dynamic multidisciplinary team made up of a variety of individuals including psychiatrists, psychologists, community psychiatric nurses, approved social workers, occupational therapists and support workers, providing the individual with a whole range of support. The Trust is committed to high quality teaching and training for medical students, post graduate trainees in psychiatry, specialty doctors, students and other professionals. You'll provide direct clinical supervision and line management with opportunities to develop your skills in these areas. Main duties of the job With the changing circumstances of modern mental healthcare, the ability to adapt and demonstrate new ways of working is essential. You will have experience of working in General Adult Psychiatry and have great interpersonal skills working with colleagues to work collaboratively with our team managers, and to provide leadership and clinical expertise to our highly skilled and committed multidisciplinary teams. You will provide senior medical input and clinical leadership to the community mental health team and will be responsible for patients seen directly by you, as well as those seen by medical staff under your direct supervision. You'll assess new routine, urgent and emergency referrals from other agencies alongside other clinicians, provide consultation to non‑medical clinicians and offer ongoing management for patients requiring longer term care.

Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and on the Specialist Register or be within six months of attaining their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Person Specification Qualifications Essential

Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrist's Guidelines)

Fully registered with the General Medical Council

Eligible for inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (or Specialist Registrar within 6 months of gaining CCT at time of interview)

Eligible for Section 12 Approval (Mental Health Act)/ Approved Clinician or willing to apply for such approval once in post.

Desirable

A higher degree such as MD or PhD

In good standing with RCPsych with respect to CPD

In good standing with GMC with respect to warnings and conditions on practice

Knowledge and Experience Essential

Experience of clinical work in specialty at SpR, SAS/Specialist grade or consultant level within the last 3 years

Excellent working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act

Appreciation and understanding of ethnic minority issues and a commitment to developing culturally sensitive practices

Understanding of social factors relevant to psychiatry

Desirable

Experience of service development and introducing new services in mental health

Experience of working at consultant level

Organisation Skills/Abilities Essential

Leadership skills

Commitment to fostering a culture in the team that is respectful, fair, supportive and compassionate and role modelling these behaviours.

Ability to manage complex workloads and support others to do that

Commitment to working in multidisciplinary setting

Excellent clinical skills in relevant psychiatric specialty

Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team and provide clinical leadership to the team

Expertise in risk assessment

Confident in therapeutic risk taking

Commitment to clinical governance

Desirable

Wide range of specialist and sub‑specialist experience relevant to post

Experience in supervising resident doctors and SAS doctors

Experience in supervising non‑medical colleagues e.g. NMP

Teaching Essential

Experience in teaching resident doctors

Experience of teaching medical undergraduates and postgraduates

Experience of teaching non‑medical mental health professionals

Desirable

Medical education qualification

Research Essential

Experience of research work and/or ability to interpret research findings and apply them to clinical practice

Audit or other quality improvement experience

Desirable

Experience of grant‑funded project work

Publications in peer‑reviewed journals in relevant academic fields
