About the role
The Violence Reduction Team within Staffordshire Police works with children and young people who have been identified as involved in, or at risk of being involved in serious violence and/or exploitation. The role sits within the VRT team at Stafford Police Station and aims to offer:
* Advice, teaching and supervision to police colleagues
* Assessment and formulation of an individual's difficulties
* Depending on experience and training, offer interventions to individuals with more complex needs
* Liaison, signposting and referrals to secondary and primary services
Main duties of the job
The Practitioner will be responsible for providing the service using a stepped model:
* Indirect Psychological Formulation and Consultation: collaborate with police colleagues in selections and referrals; offer formulation and advice to colleagues on specific cases who are not indicated as ready for structured psychological intervention, but are open to the wider VRT team
* Support and Engagement Intervention: for service users with increased complexity; deliver person‑centred intervention following a collaborative plan of care incorporating psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, emotional regulation and other evidence‑based/psychologically informed interventions
* Structured Psychological Intervention: deliver/facilitate change‑focussed intervention to help prepare for onward referral, reformulation and review of needs, ongoing risk assessment
Job responsibilities
* Assessment and formulation of the needs of the young people referred to the service
* Where necessary, deliver short‑term psychological therapies to people on caseload
* Develop good therapeutic relationships with clients to improve their overall engagement with VRT
* Complete and contribute to robust risk assessments and risk management plan
* Deliver and promote positive risk taking, where appropriate
Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
* Registered mental health nurse/OT/SLT/Learning Disability Nurse or Qualified Clinical Associate in Psychology (CAP)
* Post‑registration/qualification experience, evidence of formal courses and training at diploma/degree level
* Psychological intervention qualification including EMDR, CBT, Family Interventions, CAT, DBT, Structured Clinical Management
Experience
* Evidence of extensive post‑registration/qualification experience with working with service users experiencing mental health related difficulties
* Experience of working in community settings and making decisions autonomously
* Experience of assessing, planning, coordinating and managing people with mental health problems in a community setting
* Experience of integrating care delivery across multi‑disciplinary /multi agency teams
* Experience of or good knowledge of the justice system
* Experience of working with children and young people
