System Development Engineer, ShipTech Analytics

Amazon businesses continue to experience a rapid expansion into new markets and geographies. Our Transportation Technology division builds the complex software solutions that work across our shippers and carriers to optimize both time & cost of getting the packages delivered. We are at the heart of Amazon's worldwide operations. Amazon businesses and carriers are our customers. We are building a NEW carrier facing product to replace a multitude of manual processes and tools. Key Responsibilities

* Build Analytical Applications and Dashboards:
o Design and develop interactive, user‑friendly analytical applications and dashboards to enable data‑driven decision‑making for ShipTech stakeholders.
o Integrate with various data sources and APIs to provide a comprehensive view of shipping operations and performance metrics.
o Implement advanced data visualization techniques and interactive features to enhance the user experience.
* Ensure Operational Reliability and Scalability:
o Monitor the health and performance of the ShipTech analytics platform, proactively identifying and resolving issues to maintain high availability and responsiveness.
o Implement robust testing frameworks, continuous integration, and deployment processes to ensure the reliability and consistency of the platform.
o Optimize infrastructure and cloud resources to support growing business demands.
* Collaborate with Cross‑Functional Teams:
o Partner with data scientists, product managers, and domain experts to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
o Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and knowledge‑sharing sessions to align on best practices and architectural decisions.
o Provide technical guidance and mentorship to more junior engineers to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
* Drive Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
o Stay up‑to‑date with the latest trends and technologies in the data engineering and analytics space.
o Identify opportunities to enhance the ShipTech analytics platform, proposing and implementing innovative solutions to improve efficiency, scalability, and user experience.
o Contribute to the development of reusable components, libraries, and frameworks to accelerate future project delivery.
* Ensure Compliance and Data Governance:
o Implement data security and access controls to protect sensitive information and comply with relevant regulations and policies.
o Collaborate with data governance teams to define and enforce data quality standards, metadata management, and lineage tracking.
o Document architectural decisions, operational procedures, and best practices to maintain the long‑term maintainability of the platform.

As a System Development Engineer at ShipTech Analytics, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the data processing and analytical capabilities that drive operational excellence and strategic decision‑making across Amazon’s shipping and logistics operations.


About the Team

The ShipTech Analytics team develops leading analytics platform that powers Amazon’s vast transportation operations. We work closely with stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into innovative technical solutions, empowering users to visualize data, uncover trends, and make data‑driven decisions that drive efficiency, cost savings, and customer satisfaction. Leveraging the latest technologies and data engineering practices, our team is at the forefront of building scalable, high‑performance analytics applications that support Amazon’s continued growth and leadership in the transportation and logistics space. We are a collaborative group of passionate engineers and scientists committed to delivering transformative analytics capabilities.


Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
* Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object‑oriented design, or experience in development in the last 3 years.
* Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
* Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems.


Preferred Qualifications

* Experience with AWS or cloud technologies.
* Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity.
* Experience with explainable machine learning and artificial intelligence methodologies and tools.
* Experience building web applications with React and modern web technologies.
