Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Economic Crime Unit (ECU) within the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The ECU removes the financial benefit from criminals and ensures compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA). The role leads a specialist team and works with internal and external partners to influence priorities at senior levels. This is a hybrid role with travel across the country and incident response requirements.
Responsibilities
* Lead two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer, providing leadership, development, performance management and delivery of work.
* Serve as the strategic lead for the management of financial investigations and ensure obligations under POCA are fulfilled.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence senior-level priorities and ensure EA priorities are recognised by enforcement partners.
* Support continual improvement and share lessons learnt; contribute to changes in technical documentation and advise enforcement officers nationwide.
* Support the wider organisation in understanding POCA and increasing the unit’s capability.
Team
The Economic Crime Unit comprises two teams—the Asset Denial Team and the Money Laundering Investigation Team—made up of Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers and Crime Analysts. The unit is nationally dispersed and handles serious, complex criminality involving organised crime networks.
Experience / Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience in leading a dispersed team; good understanding of financial investigations and POCA.
* Experience in: working in the law enforcement sector and understanding the National Intelligence Model.
* Effective communication: delivering feedback, managing performance and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure and prioritise a varied workload.
* Identifying areas for improvement and leading changes to working practices.
* Developing and enhancing the capability of a team and the individuals within it.
Additional Information
* Hybrid working from home and a nearby office; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties. Incident response is part of the role and may attract additional payment. Training and workplace adjustments are available.
