LOCATION: BBC Elstree, Borehamwood – Hybrid, minimum 3 days in the office.
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE:£30,000 – £32,500 + London Weighting at £5,441- depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

SCRIPT TEAM TALENT POOLS
The EastEnders script team is essential to the show's success. Awarded the best British soap by BAFTA this year, we have increasingly high standards and want to work with exciting, innovative script talent who are as passionate about the show as we are.
These talent pools are an opportunity for us to reach out and engage with people who want to work in our script team.
If you are successfully selected to be in the talent pool it doesn't mean you will definitely end up working with us unfortunately. Being in the pool means you will be considered when opportunities come up.
The application process is designed so you get the chance to try out your skills on our scripts and storylines. If you are invited to an assessment centre you will also meet our producers and editorial team and can showcase your work to them as well as starting to build relationships.
If you are invited to work on EastEnders you will need to be based in London for the duration of the contract or live within a commutable distance. Unfortunately, we don't provide financial assistance for this or cover expenses.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join the multi-award-winning EastEnders team as a Script Editor and help shape powerful, character-driven stories that reflect real life. You’ll manage complex scripts across multiple episodes, collaborate with writers, and bring editorial flair to one of Britain’s most iconic dramas. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
* Advise on all script-related matters, managing relationships between writers and production staff, and ensuring writers have access to editorial briefs and necessary expertise.
* Balance creative and production needs, representing the writer’s interests while ensuring their consent to major script changes and advocating for them in their absence.
* Generate creative solutions and long-term story ideas, ensuring scripts are editorially sound and resolving any policy concerns with the Script Producer.
* Conduct legal and editorial checksduring script preparation, including brand, copyright, libel, and defamation reviews to ensure compliance.
* Monitor episode filming, remaining available to address dialogue or story concerns as they arise on set.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
* Proven experience as a Script Editor on TV drama series - Soap, higher-end continuing dramas likeDeath in ParadiseorWaterloo Road or HETV with extensive knowledge and passion for EastEnders.
* Strong track record of working effectively with both new and experienced writers under pressure and to tight deadlines.
* Experience of confidently building relationships, communicating and negotiating with multiple departments
* In-depth knowledge of EastEnders storylines and characters.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
* Solid understanding of copyright law, Writers Guild agreements, and contracts, with awareness of their legal implications for production processes.
* Conscious of the financial impact of editorial decisions, ensuring choices align with both creative and budgetary considerations.
