Our client is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineering Manager to lead the successful delivery of complex integrated projects — ensuring engineering quality, safety, and technical compliance at every stage. As Project Engineering Manager, you will play a key leadership role within our senior engineering team, overseeing the engineering elements of our integrated automation projects. You’ll ensure that all designs, documentation, safety calculations, and compliance requirements are met, while also supporting pre-sales, developing your team, and collaborating cross-functionally across Controls, Procurement, Installations, and Project Management. This is a critical, hands-on leadership position ideal for a proactive individual with a strong mechanical design background, technical rigour, and experience managing complex engineering projects. Key Responsibilities Lead the engineering delivery of integrated projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, to specification, and to the required quality and technical standards. Ensure all design work is completed and documented appropriately to meet UKCA/CE marking requirements, including the creation of technical manuals and stakeholder documentation. Validate all critical design calculations to ensure safe systems in line with relevant safety and technical standards. Collaborate closely with colleagues in Controls Engineering, Procurement, Installations, and Project Management to provide joined-up, maintainable solutions for our clients. Support pre-sales activities by offering technical expertise, cost estimates, and project timelines. Champion continuous improvement within the Project Engineering team — including development of designs, processes, team capabilities, and ways of working. Fulfil full managerial duties including reporting, resource planning, budget management, team motivation and development, and adherence to Health & Safety (H&S) and Quality Management Systems (QMS). Actively contribute to the delivery of company strategy and provide direct client support when your specialist engineering input is required. Education & Qualifications Required: HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering with relevant and demonstrable design experience Preferred: Degree (BEng or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering Key Skills & Experience High level of competence in mechanical design engineering Proficient in conducting design calculations, writing technical specifications, and using AutoCAD to generate detailed CAD drawings Proven experience resolving complex technical issues in a design and project environment Deep understanding of compliance standards and the safety aspects of system design Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams and delivering full lifecycle projects Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to pre-sales engineering efforts Desirable Project Management qualifications (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) Experience in automated systems, material handling, or integrated systems design Knowledge of CE/UKCA marking processes and relevant regulations
