PwCs UK Economics team is looking for an experienced energy strategist at Director grade to join the firm’s expanding Power & Utilities Economics and Regulation practice.

We work on stand‑alone projects and in collaboration with our colleagues across a range of disciplines and sectors, meaning we offer a huge variety of opportunities for our people to apply their expertise in a range of exciting and different contexts. For example in the last twelve months our team has:
* Assisted Ofwat to protect water consumers as the regulator’s PR24 Price Review delivery partner, examining and assessing a 100bn investment programme for the current AMP8 period;
* Supported several energy networks to ensure they receive adequate funding from the regulator to deliver the continued safe and secure provision of electricity and gas to consumers;
* Led work for a large energy network to develop its regulatory strategy for the next 10 years;
* Assisted an energy system planner in ensuring its strategic planning frameworks and analytical methodologies aligned with best practice;
* Supported a large utility company in ensuring its delivery plan fully accounted for the key value levers of its regulatory regime;
* Led work for an energy retailer to assess the impacts of energy policies on customer charges.

Who we are looking for
We are looking for candidates with a strong background of professional experience gained in an economic regulator, regulated company or in a consultancy. The successful applicants will need to demonstrate an ability to apply strategic thinking to support organisations with their business planning, policy development and regulatory strategy. You would ideally also possess a Masters degree or equivalent professional experience.
The successful candidates will need to be at ease with applying a strategic lens to assess business, policy and regulatory issues in the energy and regulated utilities sectors, and be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of delivering successful projects in one or more of the following areas:
* Experience in developing regulatory strategy and running regulatory negotiations;
* End‑to‑end understanding of the price review cycle;
* Design and implementation of regulatory mechanisms;
* Regulatory reporting and assurance;
* Policy development and implementation.
Regulatory due diligence
The candidate will be expected to support the continued growth of PwCs regulatory strategy work and deliver a personal revenue target of £1.5m. Similarly the candidate should also be experienced in client management and bridging the gap between technical and strategic client teams.
Whilst the successful candidate will work across a range of sectors we would be especially interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following industries: gas and electricity networks; energy retail; renewables; and water.
Responsibilities
* Leading key business development activity to deliver a £1.5m revenue target.
* Leading projects in the energy and regulated utility strategy space.
* Managing and coaching our team of Senior Managers.
* Contributing to Practice Development activities, including participating in the Power & Utilities Economics and Regulation team and the wider Economics Leadership team.
* Providing expert advice and assistance on energy matters in large consultancy assignments.
* Reviewing team work in line with PwC standards to ensure quality delivery for clients.
Qualifications & Required Skills
* Director grade experience.
* Minimum of 10 years in the energy / regulated utilities sector.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Business development, marketing, pricing, analysis, research, project management, strategic planning, financial modelling, leadership and management consulting experience.
* Experience in regulatory strategy and negotiations, price review cycles, regulatory mechanisms, reporting and policy implementation.
