Overview
Applicants are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology to join the existing Gastroenterology Team at the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton on a fixed term contract for 12 months. We are looking to develop our specialist GI services by appointing Consultants in Gastroenterology.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will:
* Support the delivery of high quality, timely endoscopy care, out‑patient clinics and inpatient care across UHDB sites.
* Provide a service week system with elective activity cancelled to allow full ward cover and review of new referrals.
* Provide bowel screening, colonoscopy, large polyp EMR, PEGs and other specialist diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
* Work within a commitment to 1:16 general medical on call, subject to review and possible change.
* Develop a particular GI interest (e.g., IBD, nutrition, GI cancer, therapeutic endoscopy).
* Assist with teaching undergraduate and postgraduate trainees.
Qualifications & Experience
* GMC Specialist Registration OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR if applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview to confirm an application has been submitted and is under consideration by the GMC.
* Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty.
* Attended a management/leadership course, possession of MRCP.
* MBBS or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration with a license to practice at the date of commencement.
* European Speciality Examination in Gastroenterology & Hepatology or equivalent.
* Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualification and experience of general medicine.
* Evidence of independent clinical practice.
* Experienced in making clinical decisions and managing risk, minimum 1 year NHS experience.
* Interest in an area of Hepatology complementary to existing consultants, experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates and postgraduate students.
* Experience of supervising F1, F2 and ST trainees.
* Ability to teach clinical skills, with a specific teaching qualification.
* Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to undergraduates and endoscopy.
* Attended a recognised teaching training course.
