English Specialist HLTA - Secondary School | Barnet | September 2025 Start
Are you an experienced HLTA with a passion for English and a talent for supporting student learning at a high level?Are you ready to take on a rewarding role in a thriving secondary school in Barnet?
Tradewind Recruitment is currently working with a high-achieving and inclusive secondary school in Barnet that is seeking a confident, knowledgeable, and motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) with a specialism in English. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity starting in September 2025, ideal for someone ready to take a lead in supporting English teaching across Key Stages 3 and 4.
About the Role:
As an English Specialist HLTA, you will:
* Deliver small-group and one-to-one English interventions to raise literacy levels.
* Plan and lead learning activities under the direction of teaching staff.
* Support students with varied ability levels, including those with EAL or SEN needs.
* Contribute to the English department by preparing resources and offering targeted academic support.
* Support in-class learning and occasionally provide cover for short-term teacher absences.
* Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to teachers and students.
What We're Looking For:
* HLTA qualification, equivalent experience working at HLTA level or experience leading KS3/KS4 English interventions.
* Strong subject knowledge and passion for English Language and Literature.
* Excellent communication, literacy, and organisational skills.
* Confidence delivering interventions and supporting students independently.
* Previous experience in a secondary school setting is highly desirable.
* GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C/4 or above); A Level or degree in English is advantageous.
