Job Summary

The Performance and Modelling Analyst role sits within the Performance and Business Intelligence Division, reporting to the Associate Director of Performance and Planning. The post holder will support the Performance team and work closely with corporate and Clinical Operational Management teams. Key responsibilities include advanced business analysis, modelling, demand and capacity analysis, and benchmarking to provide insights to senior management and executive teams.


Main Duties of the Job

* Support the business in driving recovery and reviewing robust information to assist understanding and controlling performance and development modelling.
* Act as a senior information representative at key meetings and discussions, both internal and external.
* Collaborate across divisions and in South East London to promote analytical methods.
* Operate effectively in a flexible, demanding environment and engage with NHS colleagues, consultants and contractors.
* Provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, presenting to stakeholders in a formal setting.
* Apply structured change‑management approaches to assess the impact of any change.


Job Responsibilities

* Produce KPI analysis and period performance reports.
* Support ad‑hoc queries and scenario modelling.
* Supply data‑driven insight to senior team colleagues and executive directors.
* Support the forecasting process for the performance and planning functions.
* Design and develop reporting improvement programmes.
* Identify efficiencies and opportunities in the business and support day‑to‑day activities.
* Drive delivery of business initiatives and projects.
* Identify and share best practice in colleague engagement.
* Support the portfolio of initiatives to demonstrate value for money.
* Develop and maintain analytical capacity within the Trust, employing strategic, predictive, demand and capacity analysis.
* Embed benchmarking use within the Trust and maintain awareness of external benchmarking.
* Act as an information ambassador for performance and planning functions.
* Build strong working relations with senior management and other functional teams.
* Analyse performance, investigate underlying causes and highlight key issues for action.
* Communicate key issues and risks highlighted by analysis.
* Contribute to development of analysis techniques and support the application of best practice.
* Provide training to enable management teams to perform basic analyses.
* Deliver presentations at forums and meetings, presenting highly complex information to varied groups.
* Use business analysis techniques to elicit and capture requirements.
* Lead the review and redesign of business and system processes to improve efficiency.
* Identify project benefits, establish measurable metrics and foster a culture of operational improvement.
* Take charge of initiatives, ensuring successful execution.
* Support delivery on time, to quality standards and in a cost‑effective manner.
* Manage day‑to‑day analysis work assigned to the team and motivate colleagues.
* Manage third‑party delivery of services within budget.
* Draft reports summarising status, issues, outcomes and progress.

Qualifications

* Educated to master level within a mathematical, statistical, economical or similar analytical discipline, or significant equivalent proven experience in a specialist area.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* FEDIP.


Experience

* Significant experience of operational, clinical, financial or health care analysis work.
* Significant data management, data‑oriented programming, engineering and development work experience.
* Experience of advanced data science techniques such as neural networks, random forests, regression models and natural language processing.
* Experience of using predictive analytics, Markov models and large language models.
* Experience of using data visualisation software Power BI, Streamlit, Microsoft SQL Server skills.
* Significant experience of staff management, including the setting of objectives, team and individual appraisal, recruitment and disciplinary issues.
* Evidence of leading projects from inception to delivery, ensuring services and objectives are met.
* Significant knowledge and experience of designing and implementing data models to meet business questions.
* Experience using Snowflake.
* Knowledge of performance and contract management systems.


Skills

* Advanced skills in Python for data analysis, including use of SciKit‑Learn, XGBoost, TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, JAX.
* Advanced skills around data handling including SQL, Numpy, Pandas, Polars.
* Advanced skills around visualisation using Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn, Altair.
* Ability to communicate and present analysis clearly and precisely to non‑technical audiences, including senior stakeholders.
* Technical skills in data management, business intelligence and analytics, including data modelling, data visualisation (e.g., Tableau, Business Objects, Power BI) and other supporting tools.
* Demonstrable experience of directly managing, developing and motivating teams to ensure success.

Salary

£66,582 to £77,368 a year plus HCAS.
