This Behavioral Health Practitioner (Associate or Licensed) recruitment is to establish an eligible list for Marin County Probation and all Behavioral Health Programs within Health and Human Services.
This list may be used to fill Behavioral Health Practitioner (Associate or Licensed) vacancies as long as the list is active. As such, you are encouraged to apply even if a vacancy doesn’t exist in the program for which you are interested.

The Marin County Probation Department is excited to announce an opportunity to join our team as a Juvenile Behavioral Health Practitioner – Bilingual Required (Spanish/English). In this dynamic and rewarding role, you will play a vital part in supporting Behavioral Health mandates while providing critical services to youth and families.
As a Juvenile Behavioral Health Practitioner, you will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where you will:
* Provide family therapy, case management, crisis intervention, individual therapy, substance use disorder therapy groups, and comprehensive assessments to young people on probation, youth in Marin County Juvenile Hall, and those in school-based settings.
* Deliver community-based therapy services to primarily Spanish-speaking families, offering culturally relevant support and bridging communication gaps.
* Partner with Juvenile Corrections Officers and Juvenile Services Deputy Probation Officers to assess and refer youth and construct psycho-social assessments and treatment plans using the DSM-V.
* Contribute to the continued growth and support of innovative youth programs in collaboration with community partners, creating lasting change for young people in need.
* Collaborate with the BHRS Supervisor to ensure the efficient documentation of service delivery, which supports quality assurance and maintains stringent audit readiness.
Telework privileges: may be extended to employees following the successful completion of their probationary period. Behavioral Health and Recovery Services within Health and Human Services:
Access:
There is one (1) full-time fixed term position available on the Access team. This role is located in Greenbrae and bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are highly desired.
The Access Team is the system-wide point of contact for information, screening, assessment, and referrals for mental health and substance use services and treatment for Marin County residents. Under the direction of the Access Team Unit Supervisor, the practitioner will provide telephonic information, screening and referral services as well as in-person assessments to Medi-Cal beneficiaries who are seeking mental health and substance use services. The practitioner will also provide mental health treatment services such as individual therapy, individual rehabilitation and case management. Callers may be in acute crisis or experiencing urgent concerns that require prompt intervention. In-person psychosocial assessments include a diagnostic formulation as well as a medical necessity and level of care determination. The practitioner will provide referrals and authorizations for treatment by county and contracted treatment programs. The practitioner works collaboratively with an array of treatment providers as well as a variety of safety net services throughout the county and is responsible for keeping timely electronic medical records and for meeting monthly productivity standards. These positions work to provide services to the Latinx community and reduces barriers to the services by using the client’s preferred language of Spanish in service delivery to the Health and Human Services programs.
Adult System of CARE, B.R.I.D.G.E Program:
There is one (1) vacancy within Adult System of Care, B.R.I.D.G.E. Program and bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are required. The B.R.I.D.G.E. Program offers recovery oriented and strengths-based services to residents of Marin that are 18 years of age or older, who are diagnosed with serious mental illness, may have cooccurring disorders, and require the services of a multi-disciplinary team to promote their path to recovery and wellbeing.
Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Unit Supervisor, the practitioner provides case management services to adult clients who suffer from chronic mental health issues and substance use issues and who may be medically complex. In addition, they provide on-going assessment, treatment planning and act as a client advocate when client is unable to advocate for themselves. The practitioner works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of highly skilled professionals and is responsible for keeping electronic medical records current and for meeting monthly productivity standards.
Youth and Family Services:
There is one (1) vacancy within Youth and Family Services. Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are highly desired. We provide counseling and support to children, youth, and their families. Our goal is to provide services that address emotional, social, and mental health needs in a coordinated and collaborative manner. This position reports to a Unit Supervisor within the Youth Empowerment Services, Full-Service Partnership and provides assessments and direct behavioral health services to children, youth, and families. The BHP provides clinical and case management services to youth and families and works collaboratively with an intensive, multi-disciplinary team. The BHP is responsible for keeping electronic medical records current and meeting monthly productivity standards.
This is a 24 month fixed-term position. This position is budgeted through June 30, 2027. However, there may be opportunities for the hired individual during this time-period to move to a regular, ongoing position as other vacancies or promotional opportunities occur, or the position may be funded and convert to an ongoing position. Fixed-term employment ends when the position’s funding finishes, or the work is completed. Employees in these positions are exempt from the County’s policies regarding lay-off order and reduction-in-force rights.
Bilingual Testing:
Bilingual Testing/Certification: If you are hired for a bilingual position, the successful candidate must demonstrate proficiency in both Spanish and English prior to appointment. A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.
Our Highly Qualified Candidate:
The ideal candidate has prior experience conducting comprehensive Behavioral health assessments, including lethality and risk assessments, and develop practical, actionable treatment or safety plans. The candidate has experience in case coordination, especially within multi-disciplinary teams, and understands the legal and ethical issues involved in Behavioral health services. Ideally, this person demonstrates cultural competence and sensitivity to diversity, with experience working with underrepresented communities, particularly Latinx families facing unique challenges like language barriers, acculturation, and limited resources. You thrive in dynamic, diverse environments, and you’re motivated to make a difference for communities impacted by systemic challenges like violence, poverty, and trauma.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work independently and be self-directed as well as work well with a team of highly skilled professionals. The candidate should have excellent judgment and decision-making skills, should be well versed in community resources, and have excellent computer and documentation skills in addition to excellent work habits. The ideal candidate will be able to work successfully in a high volume, fast-paced work environment and be able to manage psychiatric crisis. The ideal candidate will understand the importance of collaboration and will strive to have strong working relationships with team members.
In addition, for the Probation Department: The ideal candidate has expertise in clinical family therapy practices and understands how to navigate the complex needs of youth and families. You are someone with a passion for serving youth, particularly those involved in the juvenile justice system or facing high-risk circumstances. Ideally, a candidate is well-versed in evidence-based approaches for supporting youth and families experiencing trauma, substance use challenges, and serious emotional disturbances.
In addition, for the Access Program: The ideal candidate has experience in providing clinical assessment and/or diagnosis of mental health disorders and will be comfortable working with diverse, vulnerable, urban and rural populations. Experience working with clients across the lifespan in a mental health setting and/or clients who meet criteria for serious mental health/serious emotional disturbance is ideal.
In addition, for the Adult System of CARE, B.R.I.D.G.E Program: The ideal candidate will have experience working collaboratively with psychiatric emergency services, acute psychiatric hospital units and long-term psychiatric care facilities.
In addition, for Youth and Family Services: The ideal candidate for this position will have education and experience in assessing and treating children and youth with behavioral health disorders. They will have training in child development, cross-cultural psychotherapy, and trauma-informed care.
