Job overview

We are looking to recruit a suitably qualified Clinical Equipment Librarian & Assistant Clinical Technologist to deliver a high quality, value for money, Library Service. You will also be part of a team supporting and maintaining specialist clinical and dental equipment at sites within the Barts Health NHS Trust and to various NHS and private healthcare organisations. You will join a busy Clinical Engineering department that provides a Medical Equipment Management service to the Trust and external organisations.

This position is offered on a fixed term part-time basis for up to 12 months.

Main duties of the job

To run the Clinical Equipment Library at a designated site; ensuring availability of clinical equipment (such as infusion devices, patient monitoring equipment and medical suction equipment); delivering requested items to clinical areas and collecting items after use, cleaning and decontaminating equipment between return and issue.

To provide administrative support to the team including updating job and device records in the medical equipment management database, supporting procurement and the associated record keeping, and administering the calibration of test equipment.

To adopt and promote a customer-focussed culture, understanding customer requirements and ensuring that communication is timely and effective.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. BTEC HNC in Engineering or Physical Science or an equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.

Desirable criteria

2. Evidence of regular attendance at technical training courses throughout career.
3. Working towards Registered Clinical Technologist status.

Experience

Essential criteria

4. Practical experience of using a range of test & measuring equipment and of applying electronic engineering workshop practices and techniques.
5. Experience of providing front line customer service.

Desirable criteria

6. Experience in the maintenance and performance checking of clinical equipment
7. Experience of working in a clinical environment, taking account of patient safety, dignity and infection prevention.
8. Experience of working within a Quality Management System.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

9. Knowledge of engineering theory necessary to be able to efficiently diagnose and rectify faults on clinical equipment.
10. Knowledge and understanding of the risks to patients and staff arising from the use of a wide range of medical equipment.

Desirable criteria

11. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a wide range of medical devices.
12. Knowledge of test procedures used to verify the performance and safety of a wide range of clinical equipment. This will include being able to analyse basic measurement results in order to identify operational or safety deficiencies
13. Knowledge of relevant legislation, technical and quality national standards, national and professional guidance.
14. Knowledge of stock control systems

Skills

Essential criteria

15. Electronic engineering skills including the use of test & measuring equipment, handling and assembly of components and boards, fault finding and diagnosis, use of technical manuals and circuit diagrams.
16. Intermediate mechanical engineering skills including use of test and measuring equipment, assembly and bonding of components, use of technical manuals and drawings.
17. Ability to use MS Windows and Office (Excel, Word, Outlook etc); to manage files and set up documents and spreadsheets.
18. Ability to use a computerised equipment management database system
