Team & Department
Healthcare Improvement Scotland is recruiting multiple Improvement Advisors in the Community Engagement and Transformational Change Directorate (CEC). The successful candidate will be assigned to one of the following teams (you may indicate a preference in the application):
* Systems Unit – focus on working with pathfinder sites and providing responsive support to NHS boards and partnerships to embed the Scottish Approach to Change.
* Alcohol and Drugs Unit – delivers three programmes: improving quality and safety in drugs and alcohol; integrating community pathways to recovery; transforming recovery pathways in complex care.
* Engagement Practice Improvement Team – fixed‑term role leading stakeholder engagement, providing expert guidance, coaching and training to HIS and health/social care organisations.
Role Overview
The Improvement Advisor roles require a strong foundation in quality improvement methodologies and proven experience engaging a wide range of stakeholders. The role focuses on designing, testing, implementing and spreading improvement approaches that support local services to build sustainable capacity and capability for change.
Key focus areas include understanding complex systems, analysing and translating complex information into clear, practical tools and resources that support improvement in practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Collaborate with a diverse range of services and stakeholders to drive improvement across health and social care systems.
* Apply a quality improvement lens to Scottish Approach to Change workstreams and complement existing disciplines within the team.
* Engage stakeholders, provide expert guidance, coaching and training to build capabilities in good engagement practice improvement.
* Develop and deliver tools, insights and resources that support improvement in practice.
* Transform recovery pathways in complex care and improve quality and safety in drugs and alcohol.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking experienced, enthusiastic and proactive individuals who can deliver high‑quality improvement and implementation support directly to health and social care services, working as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to design, test, implement and spread improvement approaches in complex systems is essential.
