Cybersecurity Engineer – Poundland & Dealz

The Security Engineer is a technical, hands‑on role responsible for protecting computer systems, colleagues, and information from security risks.

You will design and implement security measures, conduct audits, monitor systems, respond to incidents, and educate staff on common threats and misconceptions. You will also provide oversight and support for SOC operations and may participate in security‑related projects.

This role requires expertise in vulnerability management, patch management, and security platforms, with a strong general knowledge of IT services.

Your Impact and Responsibilities

* Design, implement, and maintain security measures to protect information and network infrastructure.
* Conduct regular security audits, risk assessments, and vulnerability scans (using tools such as Qualys).
* Manage and monitor technical vulnerabilities and manage remediation across IT assets.
* Monitor systems and networks for security breaches, irregular behavior, and abuse of permissions.
* Administer and optimise Email Security platforms (e.g., Darktrace) and Security Awareness & Training platforms.
* Collaborate with IT, architecture, and project teams to improve security posture and integrate security into business processes.
* Respond to and investigate security incidents, participate in troubleshooting and incident response activities.
* Provide oversight and support for Security Operations Center (SOC) activities.
* Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures.
* Educate and mentor staff on security best practices, common threats, and misconceptions.
* Prepare reports on security posture, maturity, and compliance.
* Support governance, risk, and compliance initiatives.
* Participate in and/or manage security‑related projects as required.
* Stay current with emerging threats, technologies, and industry trends.


Skills and Knowledge

* Minimum of 10 years experience in IT.
* Hands‑on experience with vulnerability management, patch management, and security platforms.
* Experience developing and auditing governance, risk, and compliance controls.
* Experience in incident response and security project delivery.
* Experience managing or participating in security‑related projects is a plus.
* Excellent IT skills, including networking, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and security tools.
* Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting abilities.
* Effective verbal and written communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
* Ability to educate and mentor staff.
* Project management skills are a plus.
* Expertise in vulnerability management and patch management (Qualys or similar platforms).
* Understanding of Email Security platforms (e.g., Darktrace) and Security Awareness & Training platforms.
* Knowledge of security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, etc.).
* Familiarity with SIEM, security system administration, and incident response.
* Understanding of SOC operations and monitoring.

No formal qualifications required, although a security or IT‑related certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM) are desirable.
