An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced A&E Consultant to join a dynamic, forward-thinking Emergency Medicine service in the Greater London region. This role is suitable for both full-time and part-time applicants. It offers the opportunity to work in a high-performing, collaborative emergency department committed to delivering safe, timely, and high-quality care to adults and children.
The successful candidate will join a dedicated multidisciplinary team and will play an active role in service development, leadership, teaching, and clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide senior clinical leadership within the Emergency Department, ensuring high-quality assessment and management of adult and paediatric emergency cases.
* Deliver safe, timely, evidence-based clinical care across the full spectrum of emergency presentations.
* Support junior doctors, ACPs, ENPs, nursing staff, and wider multidisciplinary teams, promoting a positive and supportive learning environment.
* Participate in clinical governance activities, including audit, quality improvement, morbidity & mortality reviews, and guideline development.
* Contribute to departmental teaching, training, and supervision of undergraduate and postgraduate learners.
* Engage in service redesign and emergency care pathway optimisation.
* Take part in consultant rotas, including evenings and weekends, aligned with departmental needs.
* Provide professional leadership, demonstrating strong communication, decision-making and resilience.
* Promote collaborative working and contribute to the department’s culture of continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
* FRCEM (or equivalent).
* CCT in Emergency Medicine and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register, or within 6 months of CCT, or confirmed CESR eligibility at the time of interview.
* Minimum 1 year of NHS experience.
* Demonstrable recent experience covering both adult and paediatric emergency care.
* Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills.
* Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment.
* Commitment to ongoing CPD and departmental development.
* Active participation in audit, clinical governance, and quality improvement.
* Ability to teach and train both undergraduates and junior doctors.
Desirable Requirements
* Higher training qualification relevant to Emergency Medicine.
* ALS / APLS / ATLS or equivalent certifications.
* Previous UK Consultant-level experience in Emergency Medicine.
* Experience in leading service improvements or change management.
* Knowledge of NHS finance, workforce, or operational management.
* Recognised GMC Educational Supervisor / Clinical Supervisor accreditation.
