The Opportunity
A high-growth, Private Equity-backed business operating across consulting, manufacturing, and construction sectors is seeking to appoint a Group Financial Controller. This is a pivotal number two role within the finance function, reporting directly to the Group CFO, and offering significant exposure to strategic and operational decision‑making within a dynamic, scaling environment.
The business currently generates circa £70m in turnover and £15m EBITDA and is experiencing sustained year‑on‑year growth through both organic expansion and an active M&A strategy. With a clear value creation plan in place and an anticipated exit within the next 2–3 years, this role presents an exceptional opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the organisation’s growth journey.
The Role
The Group Financial Controller will take full ownership of the finance function, leading a team of seven and overseeing all aspects including financial controls, reporting, audit, FP&A, business partnering, and commercial finance. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving best practice, enhancing processes, and ensuring the finance function is fit for scale.
Key responsibilities will include
* Leading and developing the finance team, fostering a high-performance and continuous improvement culture
* Ensuring robust financial controls, governance, and compliance across the group
* Owning the monthly and annual reporting cycles, including audit management
* Driving FP&A activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and performance analysis
* Acting as a key business partner to operational and commercial stakeholders
* Supporting M&A activity, particularly post‑acquisition integration and alignment of financial processes
* Enhancing systems, processes, and reporting capabilities to support growth
The Requirements
* The ideal candidate will be a qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with a strong technical foundation across financial reporting, controls, and audit
* They will also bring demonstrable experience in FP&A and commercial finance, enabling them to operate effectively across both technical and strategic domains
* Experience within a Private Equity‑backed or high‑growth environment is highly desirable, alongside exposure to M&A activity, particularly integration
* A hands‑on, proactive approach is essential, with the ability to “roll up sleeves” and lead from the front while mentoring and upskilling the existing team
* This role would suit an ambitious finance leader looking to step into a broad, high‑impact position within a fast‑paced and evolving business, with clear visibility to senior leadership and a defined path through to exit
