Specialist Biomedical Scientist - Haematology and Blood Transfusion

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has redesigned its Pathology services with state‑of‑the‑art equipment and a new laboratory. A new Lab Info Management System will be installed later this year. An opportunity for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Haematology and Blood Transfusion is now available.
The successful post holder will be highly skilled in using the latest techniques and complex instrumentation alongside traditional manual methods. You will apply professional judgement, provide a timely result service to clinicians, and maintain specialist skills through appropriate training and self‑education.
You will support the development and training of registered BMS and associate practitioner colleagues, maintain high standards of quality management, and lead a specific responsibility commensurate with a Band 6 role.
Main duties of the job
Provide 24/7 diagnostic service coverage throughout day, evening, night and weekends with full‑time hours.
Qualifications
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
* State registration with the HCPC
* Experience in a UK Haematology laboratory
* Membership of another professional body
* Evidence of CPD
Experience & Knowledge
* Knowledge of haematology and transfusion acquired by laboratory experience and IBMS registration portfolio (or equivalent)
* Experience working in a diagnostic laboratory at Specialist BMS level
Training
* IBMS Specialist portfolio in Haematology and Transfusion
* Advanced training in relevant field
Band requirements
* IBMS accredited MSc
* BBTS Specialist Certificate in Transfusion Science Practice
If you do not meet the above criteria, a Band 5 post may be offered with automatic progression to Band 6 upon completion of one of the above.
