Position Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join our team in the Highlands. You’ll be responsible for maintaining, repairing and improving mechanical systems, machinery and production equipment to ensure maximum reliability and efficiency. You will conduct routine maintenance, diagnosing mechanical faults, and implementing preventative and corrective maintenance programs to minimise downtime and optimise performance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on mechanical equipment, machinery, and systems
2. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical defects
3. Replace or repair worn or defective components such as bearings, shafts, pumps, and valves
4. Carry out emergency breakdown repairs promptly to minimise production loss
5. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned downtime
6. Monitor equipment performance and use predictive maintenance techniques
7. Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment history
8. Assist in the installation, testing, and commissioning of new machinery and equipment
9. Ensure mechanical systems are installed according to manufacturer specifications and safety regulations
10. Support mechanical maintenance projects and continuous improvement initiatives
11. Work closely with production and electricians to ensure smooth plant operations
12. Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies and ensure compliance with legal and industry standards
13. Conduct risk assessments and implement safe working practices
14. Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly
15. Provide technical support and training to operators and junior maintenance colleagues
16. Communicate effectively with supervisors and management regarding equipment.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
17. ONC / HNC / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
18. Proven experience in mechanical maintenance within the construction industry
19. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating machinery
20. Full UK driving licence
21. NVQ Level 3 or 4 in Health and Safety and/or NEBOSH qualification is advantageous
22. Excellent mechanical and diagnostic skills
23. Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability
24. Good communication and teamwork skills
25. Attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
