Job Description:
Mechanical & Electrical Engineer
Full-Time, 3-4 days a week on site at Hinkley Point C, with 1-2 days working from home or other locations.
Are you experienced in developing innovative solutions to complex mechanical and electrical engineering challenges? Are you passionate about staying updated with the latest advancements in these technologies? Do you excel at collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless integration of systems?
If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join us as a Mechanical & Electrical Engineer at Hinkley Point C!
The Opportunity
EDF is leading the transition to a cleaner, low-emission electric future, tackling climate change and helping Britain achieve net zero. A new role has arisen within the Joint Design Office (JDO) for a motivated Mechanical & Electrical Engineer to support the Review and Acceptance (R&A) branch, focusing on design activities of classified plant. You will work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary design team, undertaking the role of an intelligent customer on behalf of the HPC project.
As the technical lead, you will review and accept design changes proposed by site contractors, ensuring they are justified by the designer. You will manage interfaces between construction contractors and designers, working closely with NNB’s Delivery Directorate and the Construction Team on site. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic working environment.
Pay, Benefits & Culture
Alongside a salary of £54,280 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package includes various benefits, from enhanced parental leave to electric vehicle leasing, health insurance, product discounts, critical illness insurance, technology vouchers, gym memberships, and season ticket loans.
At EDF UK, we embrace flexibility, supporting collaboration, connection, and comfort whether you're in our offices, on site, or working remotely. Our priority is to ensure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
We are an inclusive employer, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. We aim for a balanced gender representation and a broad mix of backgrounds, including minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ individuals, those with disabilities, and social mobility supporters.
We are a disability confident employer and will assist with your application, including reasonable adjustments if needed.
What You’ll Be Doing
You will understand the design and operational aspects of the plant’s systems, ensuring compliance with Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulations. You will oversee non-conformances and design changes during construction, coordinate with external organisations, and liaise with regulatory bodies to support electrical system design.
Who You Are
You hold a degree or higher in a relevant discipline, and are a registered member of a professional institute or have equivalent experience. You have experience in highly regulated environments such as nuclear, aerospace, or petrochemical industries, and in designing and maintaining heavy mechanical power generation equipment.
Your background includes developing safety cases related to mechanical systems and liaising with regulatory bodies like the HSE Nuclear Directorate. You possess excellent organizational skills, understand Quality Assurance in regulated environments, and can make decisions to resolve safety issues. Strong communication skills and stakeholder relationship-building abilities are essential. Speaking French is desirable but not mandatory.
