Responsibilities and requirements
The post requires candidates to speak English to an appropriate standard and to undergo a Basic Criminal Record Check. Post: Degree Apprentice – Software Development (with Microsoft Power Platform)
Salary: Grade 3
Contract: Fixed Term (Degree Apprenticeship)
Hours: 37 per week (flexi-time available)
Location: Hybrid – Barnsley offices & home working
Make an impact while you earn your degree. Join our Development Team as a Degree Apprentice in Software Development. You’ll learn to design, build and support real software used by colleagues and residents—while studying toward a BSc (Hons) Digital & Technology Solutions (Software Engineer) via our approved degree‑apprenticeship pathway.
What You’ll Do
* Build great software: Design, develop, test and refine user‑centred applications using modern engineering practices and Agile ways of working.
* Go low‑code with impact: Create and enhance solutions on Microsoft Power Platform—Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, and Power BI dashboards—to streamline processes and improve services.
* Work across the stack: Exposure to cloud services, integrations and DevOps practices, contributing to continuous improvement and secure delivery.
* Learn in live teams: Collaborate in multi‑disciplinary squads—participating in stand‑ups, sprint reviews and show‑and‑tells—to turn ideas into working software.
What You’ll Bring
* Curiosity about software development and the Power Platform, with logical problem‑solving and a can‑do attitude.
* Entry qualifications for a Degree Apprenticeship, typically including GCSE English & Maths (Grade C/4+) and UCAS points (or a completed Level 3 apprenticeship) meeting university entry criteria. (Final checks are completed with our university partner.)
* Great communication skills and the ability to work well in a team, with an interest in Agile, service management good practice and information security.
