Salary: £60,000 - 65,000 per year Requirements: We require an honours degree in Computing, Software, or a related engineering subject. We require at least 5 years of software engineering experience. We need strong experience leading project teams, including multidisciplinary teams, at both functional and project level. We need broad experience designing embedded control software for electromechanical systems. We require proven experience applying control theory in real-world applications. We require experience controlling motors, actuators, and thermal devices, including PID and PWM control. We need experience working at datasheet level and selecting/specifying microcontrollers and intelligent ICs. We require experience interfacing with devices using standard protocols such as SPI, SCI, IIC, serial, and network interfaces. We need experience designing with digital and analogue signals. We require strong problem-solving and data analysis skills. We need experience designing complex real-time embedded software architectures, including bare metal and RTOS applications. We require expert-level competence in Embedded Structured ANSI-C and C++ for real-time systems. We value experience with OOD, C#, XML, Linux, Qt Embedded, Git, Agile tools, and software testing tools. We require experience with development IDEs and tools such as IAR EW, Keil uVision, or Microsoft Visual Studio. We need hands-on experience with electronics laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes and data loggers. We require strong understanding of fault-tolerant software design principles. We require UK-based candidates due to the interview process. We may require candidates to satisfy reference checks and a DBS check. Responsibilities: We design, develop, deliver into production, and maintain real-time embedded software for electromechanical control systems. We lead and coordinate software design teams, including internal and external partners and consultants. We conceive, plan, and implement embedded real-time control software for our existing and new equipment, including brewers and vending machines. We take a hands-on role in software development, delivery, and maintenance. We identify and build relationships with technology and service suppliers to support current and future products. We apply software testing, verification, and validation tools to ensure the highest quality and approve external software solutions. We work collaboratively with multidisciplinary product development teams and translate requirements into practical goals. We report progress clearly to project managers and key stakeholders. We specify, deploy, and maintain development tool chains that support agile software development and maintenance. We act as the lead software expert within product development teams. We propose, define, design, and deploy software systems that integrate seamlessly with mechanical and electronic subsystems. We evaluate and select processors and other intelligent devices for product designs. We help conceive and prove control applications for new products. We serve as both manager and individual contributor, balancing leadership with hands-on technical delivery.
