Band 7 Advance Practitioner – Stereotactic Interventional Procedures

We are looking for an experienced and appropriately qualified radiographer in X‑ray guided breast interventional practice. You will undertake interventional X‑ray guided vacuum/core biopsy +/- vacuum excision procedures under indirect supervision. Consent the patient for the biopsy/excision procedure. Take an active role in QMS, audit and departmental management in line with the expectations and responsibility of a Band 7 role. Contribute to the overall smooth running of the Breast Imaging Department by taking responsibility for delegated duties and identifying areas for improvement and development bringing these to the attention of the Lead. Work at University Hospitals Birmingham, and on the mobile units at various screening locations in the Central Birmingham area. There would be the expectation of cross‑site working at our sister symptomatic sites situated at Solihull & Good Hope Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

* Independently perform X‑ray guided stereotactic procedures (vacuum assisted biopsy and 14G core biopsy +/- vacuum excision) under agreed protocols.
* Obtain the client/patient’s consent for the interventional procedure in line with the Trust consent policy prior to the procedure.
* Sufficiently resilient to cope with independent working.
* Work with indirect supervision during stereotactic intervention sessions, with most of the session not requiring input or advice from another health professional.
* Work within own limitations and know when to seek advice.
* Communicate with patients explaining the procedure gaining their co‑operation.
* Label samples and appropriately fill in histology request forms.
* Write a full and accurate report on CRIS for the interventional procedures performed, ensuring all relevant details are included.
* Attend breast MDT at least monthly.
* Annually audit your interventional work and present to the Director of Screening, maintaining a high standard of accuracy and acceptable complication rate.
* Reflect on your practice.
* Participate in other intervention‑related audit and patient/client surveys.
* Take an active role in QMS, audit and departmental management in line with the responsibility of a Band 7 role.
* Work under the guidance of the Lead Radiographer Breast Imaging for mammography, and under the guidance of the Director of Breast Screening for interventional issues.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Diploma of the College of Radiographers (DCR)/BSc in Diagnostic Radiography
* Post‑graduate certificate in Mammography supplemented by in‑house training and achieving relevant competencies
* Registered with the HCPC
* Evidence of CPD and reflective practice
* Experience & knowledge of contrast mammography examinations
* Educated to Masters level or equivalent or working towards it


Experience

* Previous experience of the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
* Advanced knowledge of Breast Imaging
* Post‑graduate experience in Breast Imaging
* Previous experience of mentoring/teaching
* Staff Supervision
