Role Description

We are seeking a committed and student-focused Careers Advisor who believes in progression and opportunity for every learner. You will be someone who:

* Enjoys building positive, professional relationships with young people
* Understands the impact that timely, high-quality guidance has on outcomes


Key Responsibilities


Careers Guidance & Progression Support

* Deliver independent and impartial 1-to-1 careers guidance, advising students on higher education, UCAS applications (including personal statements), apprenticeships and employment options
* Support students at key transition points, including enrolment, results days and progression decision-making
* Maintain accurate and timely records of guidance using college information systems


Student Engagement & College Contribution

* Provide guidance on a drop-in basis and at College events including Open Evenings, HE events and Results Days
* Deliver small group sessions and careers presentations as part of the personal development and careers programme
* Liaise effectively with tutors and curriculum staff to promote and embed careers education


Service Development & Professional Practice

* Support the organisation of university visits, HE fairs, careers events, STEM and employer engagement activities
* Help to maintain an engaging, current and relevant careers resource area
* Keep up to date with developments in higher education, employment and the labour market and share this expertise appropriately
* Contribute to destinations tracking and analysis where required


Qualifications and Experience

* Educated to degree level
* Hold a Level 6 careers guidance qualification or equivalent
* Knowledge of current careers guidance practice, policy and ethical standards
* Experience of working with young people aged 16–18 (desirable)


Skills & Mindset

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to build trust and rapport with young people
* Well-developed organisational and administrative skills
* Confident IT user with experience of digital guidance systems
* Flexible, adaptable and able to work collaboratively as part of a team
* Demonstrable commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare


Employment Terms

This is a part-time, term-time permanent, role under Sixth Form College Support Staff conditions of service. Working hours will be agreed at interview but are based on three days a week term-time, from 9am until 4pm and will include occasional evening or holiday working for key events. Freelance workers will be considered.

Salary is based on Sixth Form Colleges Scale Point 24, currently £21.81 per hour. Please note salary includes pay for holidays, which are taken out of term-time.
