Job Summary

An exciting opportunity to shape the future of MRI Imaging in an Outstanding Trust.

South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic, forward‑thinking Clinical Lead for MRI to join our dynamic Radiology team. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role in a Trust that has been rated Outstanding by the CQC, with a clear commitment to clinical excellence, innovation, and patient‑centred care.


Main duties of the job

* Manage day‑to‑day running of the specialised MRI service.
* Develop the service to ensure optimum use of staffing and equipment.
* Provide professional leadership of the radiography team, ensuring high quality, patient‑focused care.
* Maintain a sensitive and courteous approach to patients.
* Promote continuous professional development of staff.
* Ensure a safe working environment and maintenance of radiographic equipment.
* Rotate to other clinical areas when required based on skill set.
* Maintain DM01 and cancer performance targets.


Primary Responsibilities

* Provide professional leadership and management of all radiographers, nursing and support staff.
* Ensure patient‑focused, high quality service delivery with optimal efficiency.
* Assist in forming new policies, procedures and initiatives to improve service delivery across all sites.
* Critically evaluate evidence to define scope and standards of clinical practice.
* Advise others on effective service delivery using specialised knowledge.
* Support a culture where staff can report incidents and learn from complaints and incidents.
* Regularly undertake clinical work within the MRI modality, maintaining DM01/Cancer performance.
* Ensure examinations are carried out to the agreed standard and have in‑depth knowledge of modality‑specific procedures.
* Provide clinical support and supervision to all staff within the imaging department.
* Prioritise workload and facilitate examination booking, taking into account clinical indications.
* Work flexibly and undertake IV injections where required, supervising radiographers.
* Maintain high standards of patient care, comfort and focus at all times.
* Keep accurate patient examination records in line with departmental procedures.
* Liaise and communicate effectively with staff inside and outside the Directorate.
* Ensure departmental processes and booking systems respond to patient, department and Trust needs.
* Manage staff day‑to‑day and maintain up‑to‑date protocols.
* Participate in audit, quality assurance, business case development and procurement activities.
* Lead in investigating complaints in line with Trust policy.
* Drive performance targets – waiting times, turnaround times – and prepare regular activity reports.
* Oversee cost improvement schemes and manage agreed financial budgets.
* Control ordering of equipment and stock to ensure adequate supply.
* Allocate staffing, maintain leave and sickness records, and support recruitment and appraisal processes.
* Provide training and development to consultants, students and staff; ensure mandatory training completion.
* Lead departmental research projects, ensuring funding and resources are available.
* Observe ionising radiation code of practice, adhere to regulations and maintain HCPC registration.
* Report and action clinical and non‑clinical incidents, conduct risk assessments and manage clinical governance.
* Assist clerical staff with booking and handle related duties.
* Participate in extended working hours when required.


Person Specification


Qualifications (Essential)

* BSc(Hons) Radiography
* Diploma of the College of Radiographers or Equivalent
* Post‑graduate qualification in an appropriate speciality or demonstrated equivalent level of expertise (e.g. Nuclear Medicine / Ultrasound)
* Management qualification or demonstrable management skills
* Health Professions Council Registration


Desirable

* Evidence of continuous professional development


Experience (Essential)

* Significant experience in the specialty
* At least 8 years at senior level
* Management experience
* Organisational experience
* Track record of effective senior level performance
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of imaging technique
* Awareness of clinical governance issues in patient care
* Knowledge of developments within the profession
