Overview

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Geomatics Analyst to join our team. You will work as part of a small team processing survey data to support the delivery of National Elevation Data Programmes, using specialist software and GIS to process and quality control data from state-of-the-art Remote Sensing survey instrumentation including an Airborne LIDAR Terrain Mapper.

New starters to the Environment Agency are required to undertake an incident response role in addition to their day job. Roles and working patterns are flexible and can be chosen by the individual. Day-job support is provided to enable incident response duties as needed.


The Team

The Geomatics team, within National Monitoring Survey, provides specialist services to enable effective evidence across the business. This includes collection and analysis of high-quality Lidar, Aerial Photography, Bathymetry & Satellite data. The team collaborates with National & Area teams to co-deliver monitoring requirements for the Environment Agency and the wider environmental community.


Experience/Skills Required

* A relevant degree-level qualification in Geography, GIS, Environment or another relevant scientific discipline, or equivalent experience with an understanding of operational applications.
* Practical experience and broad GIS skills using ESRI products (e.g., ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap) with large and complex mapping datasets, preferably including Airborne LIDAR.
* Experience of processing and quality control of LIDAR datasets and LIDAR-derived Digital Elevation Models is advantageous.
* Experience in Remote Sensing techniques, analytical and problem-solving skills, with good attention to detail (through work or academic experience).
* Good organisational skills, high motivation and a professional attitude. Ability to communicate effectively and work unsupervised at times to meet deadlines.


Contact and Additional Information

The National Monitoring Survey team is national and located at various sites; you can be based anywhere within working proximity to an EA office. You will be expected to travel to the Geomatics team hub base in Bath when required and to come into an EA office to meet team needs. The post is full-time, with other working patterns considered.

Competencies

1. Achieves Results

You should set and deliver high work standards and drive to meet targets. Prioritise and organise tasks to ensure timely results, with flexibility as priorities change. Provide an example of processing a large dataset to a high standard and meeting deadlines. Answers will be assessed using the STAR technique.

2. Data and Information Management

Demonstrate the ability to collect, analyse, interpret, record, manage and share data for various purposes. Handle, analyse and report on large survey datasets to create clear GIS products. Demonstrate a high level of competence in ESRI ArcGIS (or similar) and extensive recent experience with complex mapping data, preferably Airborne LiDAR. Provide evidence in your application and interview using the STAR technique.

3. Scientific Knowledge

Apply scientific knowledge to provide sound, science-based evidence to internal and external customers. Provide examples of applying knowledge and remote sensing data to communicate to technical and non-technical audiences. Answers will be assessed using STAR.
