Our TeamWelcome to the Audi F1 Project.
Audi will be competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship from 2026.
The new team has three locations: the Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany), known for its modern facilities; the Sauber Group's Formula 1 factory in Hinwil (Switzerland), known for its innovative technologies; and the Sauber Motorsport Technical Center in the UK, opening this year. Our Power Unit is developed in Neuburg, while Hinwil focuses on chassis and race operations.
We seek individuals with an athlete's mindset—those who refuse to give up and see limits as challenges to overcome. Join us to bring Vorsprung durch Technik to Formula 1 and make motorsport history.
The position is based at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg, Germany.
As a development engineer for powertrain simulation, you will contribute significantly to the project's success, setting development directions across departments. Your focus will be on optimizing the performance of one of the most powerful and efficient hybrid drivetrains in Formula 1.
This role starts on January 1, 2026. Your Mission:
* Develop state-of-the-art complete vehicle simulation for lap time performance and energy management optimization
* Continuously improve the simulation and optimization framework by implementing user requirements and integrating high-fidelity vehicle and powertrain models
* Identify and implement measures to enhance convergence and robustness of the optimization
* Research, review, and apply advanced numerical methods from academic literature
* Support concept analysis and system design decisions for the F1 2026 Power Unit regulations
* Collaborate independently and with engineers from model and software development teams
Your Profile:
* Doctoral or Master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related fields
* Extensive experience in numerical optimization and control systems
* Knowledge of optimal control or model predictive control
* Strong skills in linear algebra, calculus, dynamical systems, and differential equations
* Experience in lap time simulation and vehicle modeling
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or C++
* Familiarity with software development workflows and version control systems like Git or SVN is advantageous
* Strong analytical and systemic thinking, with the ability to work independently and in teams
* Enjoy working in an international environment
* Proficiency in German or English; willingness to learn the other language is required
