SEN Specialist Support Worker – 1:1 Reception (Non-Verbal Child)
Primary School | Supply Agency | Until July 2026

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Specialist Support Worker to provide consistent 1:1 support for a non-verbal child in a Reception class within a warm and inclusive primary school. This long-term position is offered through our supply agency and will run until July 2026, offering full-time stability and the chance to make a meaningful impact during the child’s early education journey.


The Role

This role involves delivering tailored support to meet the needs of a non-verbal child who requires a calm, patient and skilled practitioner. Your responsibilities will include:

* Providing daily 1:1 support and ensuring the child feels safe, regulated and included throughout the school day
* Supporting communication using visual aids, PECs, Makaton or other alternative communication methods suited to the child’s needs
* Implementing strategies set by the SENCO, class teacher, and external professionals
* Assisting with learning activities, sensory regulation and social development
* Encouraging independence, emotional regulation and confidence in the classroom
* Working closely with staff and parents to share progress and maintain consistency
* Ensuring the child has access to a nurturing environment that promotes positive engagement and development


What We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is passionate about working with children with additional needs and who can provide both structure and warmth. You should have:

* Experience supporting children with SEN, ideally including those who are non-verbal or have communication and sensory needs
* A calm, resilient and empathetic approach
* Knowledge of Reception/EYFS learning and developmental stages
* A proactive attitude and ability to adapt to the child’s needs throughout the day
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with the wider staff team
* An Enhanced DBS registered on the update service, or willingness to obtain one

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
