The PwC Actuarial practice comprises over 300 partners and staff, with offices in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bristol and Mumbai. We focus on non-life, life, banking and non-insurance, led by a fifteen-strong partner team, making us the largest actuarial practice within the large accounting firms. Our team works with insurers, regulators, private equity and related companies such as agents and administrators, providing general insurance advice and consulting services. We are market-leading in the General Insurance space, offering access to solving some of the biggest challenges in the non-life industry for a wide range of clients including multinational composites, Lloyd’s & London Market, UK & European Personal & Commercial, and Reinsurance Market.
* We are seeking a Manager from a non-life insurance pricing background to join our Actuarial practice.
* Our clients rely on us for well-informed, insightful challenges to their business and the models used to inform decision making.
What Your Days Will Look Like
* You’ll provide advice covering solvency, economic capital, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, company restructuring and risk control, financial modelling, business planning, new legislation, and the efficiency and reliability of reporting processes.
* You’ll work predominantly on pricing, with opportunities to also work on Reserving, and/or Risk and Capital projects across the London/Lloyd’s market and/or the Personal & Commercial lines market. You will work on multidisciplinary projects around areas such as transactions, organisational transformation, cost reduction and start-ups.
* Our team advises clients in the general insurance and non-insurance industries on business risks and regulatory updates from natural catastrophes to mortgage defaults. We develop comprehensive risk analysis and mathematical models to help organisations enhance their business forecasting capabilities, limit their risks, and use their data informatively to make better strategic business decisions.
* You’ll manage and deliver a wide range of concurrent actuarial and multidisciplinary assignments and will interact with clients, often as the main point of contact on assignments.
* You’ll have the opportunity to work in multidisciplinary teams or with people from our network firms overseas and take an active role in supporting the strategic management and running of the practice, e.g., developing pricing team offerings or training programs for graduates and staff.
* You’ll be involved in developing more junior staff through on-the-job coaching, or acting as a career coach, mentor or study mentor.
This Role Is For You If
* You’re open to new challenges, self-motivated, agile and able to leverage existing skills in new areas like deals due diligence and technology change for pricing functions.
* You come from a background as a recognised general insurance consultant or have delivered significant actuarially related projects within the general insurance industry.
* You have led actuarial or multidisciplinary projects, with responsibility for project management and delivery, including staff development and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
* You have a good understanding of pricing techniques, key actuarially-orientated pricing and regulatory issues, and working knowledge of pricing in London Market direct pricing, reinsurance pricing and personal lines pricing (street and technical pricing).
* You have experience with pricing vendor tools (e.g., HX, Tyche, Rulebook) or Excel-based rating with a SQL backend, or tools such as Earnix, Akur8, Emblem, Radar, Python and/or R for personal lines; niche pricing areas (trade credit, cyber, catastrophe modelling) are a plus.
* You can communicate complex technical matters clearly and have wider commercial awareness of the insurance industry.
